Yes it is a sin. Most people have done it, especially men, but it is not right. Like lying, most people lie sometimes, but it is still wrong.
Masturbation stimulates powerful feelings and really fuels a desire that generally only gets stronger when you feed it. The problem with stimulating that desire is that it really triggers the mind to think about and look for more which often leads to more sexual involvement with more serious ramifications--such as sexual contact with another person. For some, it can become an obsession, trying to scratch that itch or fill that need.
It is hard enough to keep your sexual urges in check when you try to avoid the things that are really sexually provocative. It is soooo much harder once you start stimulating them on purpose.0 1 3 7Fun fact: there is no bible verse condemning masturbation, if you wanna believe that fairytale anyway, it does condemn lust tho along with other harmless activities....
Wow, it's hard to believe we're in 2014 with such a comment. Sex is bad then? Hahaha...
Yeah this is nonsense lol
Masturbation has been seen as a sin (though the only part in the bible even close to this is about a male 'spilling his seed').
Masturbation has also been at one stage or another:
Sin
Illegal
Mental Health issue
Considered a reason to have circumcisions
Considered a reason to eat Corn Flakes (google Kellogs and masturbation).
---
These days we're pretty much over all that. Even most non denominational Christians are ok with it. It's has a number of health benefits, virtually no downside, and is socially more or less acceptable. (To the point where it's often talked about by close friends without embarrassment.)
PS. In the interests of being honest, I'm an atheist.0 1 0 0

The OT may have some things in there talking about sexual purity, but a member (he's a doctor at my parents' church) came in when I was in junior high and said that it is a natural event that helps release steam, and it's wiser that going out and having sex. Now, the tricky thing is, dreaming of a person while masturbating is technically sinful, and I don't know about you, but it's hard to have "alone time" without thinking of someone else. So, do what feels right for you. I don't think a perfect answer will ever be decided for this, but if it comes down between masturbating or having sex with other people, I'd stick with the safer bet.
1 1 0 0not necessarily.
maybe if you were fantasizing about a married man.
maybe not to do it all the time.
but if you need to release some tension and you're turned on... then release.
+ you can't get pregnant or any diseases that way.
and there are some great toys out there
and as far as religious.. I believe that god created us the way he did for a reason. to have pleasure from sex. if not, why would were have orgasms? hormones? etc.1 1 0 1its the fact that thinking sexual thoughts is considered a sin
its not THAT bad considering society today but its still considered a sin
human nature is to have sexual thoughts though and that's one thing that
we have to fight and try our best not to do,even though it doesn't always happen that way. although I KNOW you can go on w/o masturbating.1 1 0 0

6 19Yes, if you believe in a christian God, then it is a sin. Any act of sex for any other reason than pro-creation is a sin. Good thing I'm not religious. lol
0 0 1 1I hate how, because everything on earth has changes, believers in christianity think that God has changed too. The truth is, if there is a christian God, most of everyone on earth is going to burn for one reason or another. God doesn't have to bend or change, he is...well...God
God is not real.
No, its human.
1 1 0 0No it is not wrong. It is so right, it should be taught in school. It has many health and emotional benefits.
1 1 1 1That is your personal & moral choice to think that. You make your own decision.
For me no it is not a sin. I was told that it was in grade school. We all have needs & sometimes we have to do this out of necessity or just relief. I believe that almost everyone does it.
We were made to have these feelings, otherwise why would we be built the way we are? This is not the old days. Times have changed. What once was secretive or taboo is now more out in the open.
Again just because we do it, it's still your decision0 0 0 1I'm atheist so as for a "sin", no... its healthy but like just about any human activity (eating etc..) it can become excessive but when balanced its perfectly ok, hurts nobody, does offen an imaginary being up in the clouds, don't trouble ur mind over it for a second.
1 1 0 0Some religions seem to think so but they have a really hard time producing any material to back up this claim (one of the few references they have, Onan, was a male and it is likely that he was practicing coitus interuptus rather than masturbating). The point of the religious prohibition is to make you feel guilty about something should be doing anyway. This guilt makes you give money and service to the people who told you it was wrong in the first place. Quite a money making idea if you ask me.
1 1 0 0Sorry it is pretty hard and almost everybody struggles with it. But yes it is a sin. Not because God will punish and condemn you for it, but rather you give in to your fleshly nature, give a foothold for the devil, which in turn puts you into bondage and addiction, which causes grief and issues in life. But God would always be your salvation from it, if you turn to him.
0 1 1 0Gimme a break
Masturbation is normal for everyone guys, girls etc... and is it a sin it depends on what you believe. in my opinion yes it is but then again we are all sinners right?
0 0 0 0everyone does it, regaurdless of religeon. It may be a sin, but would god really send someone to hell for doing something natural with thier body, perfectly harmless? I don't think so, god loves us too much to damn us to hell over perfectly normal things.
1 1 1 0Not wrong at all. Natural and expected
0 0 0 0Masturbation is quite normal and healthy, but some religions would have you believe otherwise. If you enjoy masturbating and it feels good to you go ahead and do it all you want. People misquote the Bible to prove their point as to it being sin, but there isn't anything there. I enjoy masturbating too and thought it was a sin until I found out the truth that the Bible doesn't really say anything against it.
1 0 0 0O cool.. so masterbating isn't a sin.. because when I go to confection like once a year :(... I would never tell the prist that. but yea.... I never knew if it was a sin or not ......wow.. I hope its not
Ahh, I love the smell of sin in the morning. It gives the flavour to life, does it not?
2 0 0 1Some religions consider it a sin... If you're religious, you shouldn't be asking us, you should ask someone knowledgeable about the religion you choose to follow.
From a medical and scientific point of view, it's healthy and positive. It promotes better self image, better understanding of your body and sexuality, relieves stress and pent up sexual frustration, reduces the desire to participate in higher risk activities, etc.0 0 0 0Well, it depends, if your a Christian or some other religion, most see it to be a Sin.
Honestly, since I'm part of a cult, we and I have nothing wrong with masturbation, it's just something you do.
So honestly, In my opinion, if you think it's right, then no, it's not wrong.
Hope this helped.0 0 1 0Just curious wut cult?
Masturbating is 100% normal, nothing bad about it.
It indeed was a "sin" in the beginning of mankind because all sex really had to be "used" to replace the people dying at much higher rates than now. That explains the religious condemnation of masturbation.
with the actual overpopulation on earth, masturbation and birth control will earn you a place in paradise.1 0 0 0it´s a deadly sin, if you are cought, you will be stoned to death xD... (obvious sarcasm). it´s a natural thing to do and to all people who say its bad and you should feel bad for it, i got this dude for you: imagemacros.files.wordpress.com/.../...opinion.jpg
btw, you can interpret the bible in any way you want...0 0 0 0Yeah it's a sin.
but if you're not religious then who cares?0 0 1 1Jerking off is one of the deadly sin becouse it a lust i should really stop doing it but i just dont no how to
0 0 1 0My problem with his whole topic is that many Christians say that it is wrong, but they just give some generic reason like it tempts you to be immoral or something. I've never seen any Christian give any good strong solid bible verse that talks about this topic. Do you know why? because the bible doesn't say anything about masturbation. This reveals the sad fact that many Christians follow traditions instead of following the bible. It's like they made this the 11th commandment; "Thou shalt not masturbate." Being a Christian used to mean that you were following Christ. But if these people are following traditions instead of the bible, then they should more accurately be called "Traditionalists."
0 0 0 0It is bad if you follow the bible. It says and I'm paraphrasing here "he who spills his seed on to the ground shall commit a sin worce than adultery" something along these lines, this means masturbation.
0 0 0 0Hold up! Wait a minute! No where in the bible does it say that. I know because I read the bible. You have to show me where in the bible it says that. This is another one of those bible myths.
