Is Hanna a Lesbian in the movie Hanna?

Ok, so I've been watching the movie Hanna, and she's been isolated her whole life so I guess she doesn't really know if she likes guys or girls at first. Well, when that boy tries to kiss her in that one scene, she throws him to the ground before their lips meet, as if she was about to kill him, even though she looked willing to kiss. But when she's in bed with Sophie (the girl from the family in the RV), even though it's more of a sleep over situation, Hanna and Sophie kiss. So, is Hanna truly a lesbian, or was it a spur-of-the-moment thing? Also, is Sophie truly a lesbian as well? Please only answer if you've seen the movie. Thanks so much :)

  • I saw the movie when it first came out in theatres, so it's not the freshest in my mind... but I don't think the movie said much in either direction about her sexuality.

I agree with AltTech that she threw the guy down because she felt scared or threatened.

I think with Sophie, she was just showing affection because she felt very comfortable and safe with her, and loving toward her (though, not necessarily loving in an romantic way). Sophie was the first friend she ever had, considering that she lived in isolation only with her father, and she didn't have the socialization to understand what "normal" behavior in a friendship relationship is in our society

  • No, no Hanna is not a lesbian. You see, she was extremely sheltered so I don't think she truly understood WHY people kissed or WHO people were supposed to kiss. I don't think she learned that the average kiss is between a man and a woman who have romantic - emotional and physical - feelings for each other. She didn't kiss that boy simply because she felt like he was intruding on her personal space, which she did not like. With Sophie, however, they were close friends. So Hanna didn't mind, and she thought that kissing was just a friendly gesture. She saw no reason NOT to kiss Sophie, so she did. But Hanna is not lesbian and I doubt she will be kissing girls for other reasons than that.

  • I don't believe so. Hanna was a sheltered child who was trained to sense danger, hence why she threw that guy on the ground thinking he was a threat.

The whole sleepover kiss thing was stupid, IMO. But came across as more of a "thank you" for helping her than anything else. The other chick was meeting up with guys, so I highly doubt she was a lesbian. But that whole scene seemed like it was added just for the sake of being risque. Which is really f***ing stupid.
