well sometimes a shiver is related to when they go hard, so in that respect, yes, and there are actually times when I can feel them specifically (it feels like a shiver, but just in those areas). When it's cold and we shiver they go hard, but we feel the shiver, not them. But when it's due to touch or I'm just chilly in general, I don't usually feel it. It can certainly mean a girl is turned on, but when temperatures are not ideal it becomes much more difficult to tell. Obviously if it's cold, I could be hard due to the cold or due to the guy, who knows? But when I'm hot it's much more difficult for them to become hard, even if he's playing with them. So due to being turned on? yes, and no I suppose.
I was reading the other responses here, too. Sensitivity varies a lot between women, so some can and some cannot reach orgasm just with nipple stimulation. Also, the main purpose for nipples getting hard is for babies to nurse. It's extremely difficult for a baby to nurse if the nipples don't stick out so they can latch on (sorry for the blunt explanation), which is why nipples become hard when touched or played with - same as responding to a baby's hungry mouth :)

(1) If cold weather causes it, we feel it, it might hurt a little, and there's no way of fixing the issue till we're warm again. It's like a giant goose-bump...only with guys staring, which only adds to the awkwardness.
(2) Yes, when a girl's aroused, everything in that area is very sensitive and may perk up a bit. It's not as drastic as (1), so there's a chance she doesn't pick up on it till there's some level of friction involved.
(3) Some girls with small breasts have hard nipples most of the day most of the year. I'm not sure why, but yes, they're fairly sensitive to...the elements.

Unless you're being physically stimulated there (or it's cold out), I don't think it's related to sex.
Plus, nipples are there for breast feeding, not sex. They harden in preparation for lactation.
But, when you caress gently, with fingers or with the tongue, they do become hard.
Like I said "physically stimulated". If you touch them of course they'll go hard. I was referring to if getting horny = hard nipples. And my opinion was no. But yes to your comment, if you play with nipples, it can be arousing.

It can be because it's just reallyy cold or if we're really turned on by something a guy is doing to us. But I feel like it's way different than a guy getting hard. It can happen for various different reasons. I usually don't know unless it's like super cold. Then you know. hahah hopes this helps!
