Would you kiss someone with a canker sore?

I get canker sores occasionally. To avoid any confusion in the question, canker sores are NOT cold sores. They are not contagious, not caused by the herpes virus, and and sunken in on the inside of the mouth rather than raised around the outside. Would this be enough to stop you from kissing someone with one?

I'm well aware of them and it hurts your mouth for days and you can get them just by cutting the inside of your mouth..I don't have them but it is common and passed down threw family DNA...be open don't show it but say no french to kiss my left side of the lip...or suffer the stinging pain?..Douche ¥ Bag

  • FYI. Canker sores are indeed caused by a herpes virus but not the one that causes genital herpes. Acyclovir is the most effective treatment.

    • 90% of genital herpes cases are caused by herpes simplex virus II. The other ten percent are caused by HSV1, which is also responsible for cold sores, herpes keratitis (in the eyes), and herpes gladiatorum (often transmitted among wrestlers). The because of canker sores is not known definitely, but it is not believed to be viral; it is most likely genetic disposition, with outbreaks caused by physical or psychological stress. There is no treatment to get rid of canker sores, just oral anesthetics.

    • As I have at least anecdotal evidence to the contrary, if someone has canker sores, I strongly recommend they try Acyclovir, a good antiviral, because it is the only thing I've found that gives me quick, effective relief in the event of an outbreak.
