At what point is "curvy" actually considered fat?

First off I would like to say that I don't mean for this question to be offensive to any curvy ladies out there, I think that curves can look gorgeous. But I keep hearing women who are clearly overweight claiming that they love their bodies because they are curvy and I feel like it has become an excuse to be obese. So my question is what is the cut off point? When does curvy become fat? Men who like curvy women: How big is too big? Women who are curvy or support being curvy: How can you support girls who are heavy when you know that it is unhealthy? Do you think that it's used as an excuse a lot of times?

I am aware that being super skinny is also unhealthy. I never said that it wasn't. And yes I know that overweight women are curvy. My question I guess was for people who find curvy women attractive, how much is too much?

  • there really is no too big. it depends on the guy. some guys like really fat girls, others like thick girls, chubby girls, only.

being overweight doesn't mean you aren't curvy so I don't get what the point in saying that is, but...

some women are naturally bigger. that's how the story goes.

its also unhealthy to be stick thin via eating disorder but it would be ignorant of me to tell my friend who is *extremely* thin because of her own medical situations (think she has a thyroid condition or some sh*t) that she is unhealthy and should gain weight. its not attractive to me, but I can't tell her if she is healthy or not. well, technically I can because we are close and I know like everything about her but if I were some random person typing online, I couldn't accurately judge that. the same is here. I know girls who are overweight who are very healthy, healthier than most thin girls I know.

obese is a bit more than just overweight. you need to use the right terms or pictures for me to understand what you're talking about. even then, everyone looks different obese. I've been obese before and people still thought I was gorgeous and I got attention from guys and girls. some people didn't even believe me when I told them my weight, I got accused of lying, which made no sense because I would not lie about being 250 lbs. I don't know any woman who would lol different people have different body frames, body types, and carry weight differently. so that affects a guys opinion, if he likes bigger girls at all. if he's not trying to date anything that isn't thin, then that's different - it doesn't much matter then.

personally, I come from a culture that doesn't expect women to be thin, and doesn't even see that as ideal. so it probably comes naturally to me to support curvys and girls who are overweight and look really good. extra weight is probably encouraged in my family, if anything, to be honest. its a cultural perception on beauty. not that everyone from any one given culture agrees on beauty.

i definitely notice that a lot of women that many western, white people would call fat would be nowhere near fat in my culture. its just different.

curvy has no essential meaning. its as concrete as preppy, emo, or telling someone they have a flat butt. its all perception. by definition, fat girls would be the most curvy - their bodies have tons of curves lol however, this isn't how many people associate the word. some think its a thicker girl with "natural curves" in her bone structure or natural proneness to fat in some areas. Others think a really skinny girl with any slight curve in her body is curvy. its a meaningless term, really. preppy was once classic, now its hollister. its not a real thing, its whatever society wants it to be. if society decides curvy = fat, then that's what society believes.

euphemisms are all over.i could easily say that thin is a euphemism for looking anorexic, having a boyish figure, stick-like, etc. anyone can play that game.

    • not all overweight women are naturally curvy, in terms of natural proneness to having big boobs/fuller butts or bone structure (hips). I've known girls who were really overweight who lost weight and are now barely curvy at all - barely any boobs, flatter butts, narrow hips. in fact that body type is more likely to put on abdominal fat. not trying to be difficult, just saying...

  • Curvy = link

Okay - look at her body - she is not a stick by no means, but she definitely has a definite curve to her. Big boobs which are usually typical of bigger girls, and wide hips - and I'm sure she has a big tushy to boot.

Her stomach isn't perfectly flat - you can tell when she relaxes she'll have some pudge - but overall, she's got a feminine figure with some meat on her.

    Fat = link

the girl on the way end in the light pink - usually you'll see much more profound roundness in the face, the double chin coming along - the belly is visibly more extended from the body and hangs over.

    • Great illustrative answer.

    • Thank you ^^

  • In my opinion it's considered fat when you get a roll in between the hourglass shape like this link

    • That isn't a problem for me.

    • naw...little extra is always good :)

  • Curvy has become a euphemism for overweight women so they don't feel bad about themselves, because we're not allowed to hurt feelings in the 21st century...sad state of affairs. It's like shopping in the big and tall men's section...sure, you COULD be 6'10 basketball player, or a big burly NFL lineman, but most likely you're just a fat guy.

But anyway, when I think of true "curvy", I think of a woman who's truly bigger-boned (another abused euphemism). She'd still have that desired hourglass shape, just on a little bigger scale. It's really all in the stomach. Most curvy women don't have flat stomachs and may be a little soft, but if you have a GUT? you ain't curvy, you're overweight. Curvy is a natural body type, overweight is largely a result of diet and lifestyle. Like you don't BECOME curvy, you're born that way. You can't just put on weight, or not hit the gym after having a baby and just be like, "oh, hey...well, I'm CURVY now." No you're not...you're fat. I don't say that to be mean, but the truth stings sometimes. On the bright side, most dudes probably don't look too good naked, so we're even, hahaha...

  • to me curvy is a healthy weight can't see her ribs and she got some cushion to keep you warm at night

fat = back clevage rolls on rolls and when she sits she can't see her knees

lets face it none of our bodies are perfect but we should aim to be healthy its our lives in our hands

If you weight stops you from doing the fun things in life like going for a hike a long walk roller skating or any other activity that is commonly enjoyed you have a problem

  • You can never be too curvy! :D

    • Too much is when she weighs too much for me to pick up

  • If you are in an unhealthy weight range for your body measurements you are fat, not curvy. Based on bmi. Everyone knows when they are fat, they are just in denial about it and "curvy" sounds cute. I mean you can be skinny and still have curves.

  • When those curves start overlapping.

    • lmfao! so true though

  • Curvy can be skinny/slim/normal/fat. The only reason someone is curvy is because waist-to-hip ration which is around 0.70.

So it can be: waist: 24 inches and hips 34 inches =curvy or waist: 35 inches and hips 45 inches = curvy.

  • Depends really I agree with the rolls lol but some girls can actually pull of the big look

  • well if laziness and unaccountability were not such an epidemic

we would just call them fatty

    not curvy
