and we feel sexually attracted to those who are biologically good mates for us? Well then. My friend's biggest ambition is to be a mom. She loves kids and always dreams of having a family.but, she is not sexual, claims to hate the idea of sex and is the type who kind of turns up her nose about it. So, unless she is being dishonest and just is shy to admit it, I find that odd because I never think about kids. And I am a horny beast in a lovely womanly form so you could never know it. : P but I never think about having kids, I want but I don't feel ready for all that yet. I just think about sex sex sex. Sometimes I fantasize about getting pregnant by an older powerful man though. I also am always attracted to men who are a lot older than my 20 year old self. So is my body telling me to mate with these older powerful figures, even though society hates it? And if I'm so horny, which comes from desire to reproduce, why am I not fixated on having kids, unlike my non horny child loving friend?

i disagree with that. I'm attracted to women sexually and obviously I can't reproduce with them. I think to a certain extent the desire to produce plays into it, but I think its rather ignorant to boil down the complexity of human psychology to just that. imo. I think people confuse causation with correlation a lot. just because sexuality is correlated with reproduction doesn't mean that reproduction is the cause for sexuality. reproduction is the side effect of sexuality, which helps to keep a species alive. I don't think you could make the argument for many species of animals having a "desire to reproduce" so why does it apply to human beings? statements like this seem like lazy thinking imo. anyway...

you being attracted to older powerful figures is your deal. in fact, this is something structured by society, what you are taught is better than or more desirable. nature doesn't know money or material power positions. that has no significance in nature what so ever. you are operating within the boundaries of culture and society and THEY tell you that powerful men are the best. Now, society has also evolved to balance out age differences as well. the message that powerful men are better is still there. I don't know where you get that it isnt. you're just not supposed to date men who are old as hell.

anyway its not a natural attraction because power in these terms is not a natural thing. you're attracted to that, good for you. I'm definitely not lol but then I've had a life laid out for me by parents who already have a bit of power in society and a lot of money. I'm usually not impressed by or strongly attracted to the same in men. I've just been around it my entire life. I tend to gravitate to the poor, low income, hot intellectuals and musicians if anything.

I love how you put the question actually, comparing two apparently different scenarios. Mating is, no doubt, the way to reproduce and in order to do so there must be a certain stimulation. All human beings are born with that capacity, though not all experience it the same way. Regardless of the more scientific approach that hopefully other posters can provide...I'd say, just from life experience that maybe being horny means just that: you want to have sex. I'm pretty sure that at a subconscious level the mating part is a given, strong enough to drive your desire though not the same for everyone. And it also seems that that has nothing to do with the wish (in the form a thought or desire) of having a baby your friend experiences. If it was her instincts...she would definitely feel horny at one point as it has nothing to do with her mind but with her body. It does sound logic right? In order to have a baby you need to have sex. In order to have sex (we're discussing normal situations here, so no jokes about rapes or artificial pregnancies), you need to have a sexual drive / be horny. I think she wants the baby more intellectually at this point, but not with her body. I'm thinking that the only reason for a woman to want a child but not want the sex involved will probably have to do with a) physical damage (something wrong with her body) or b) mental damage (somebody screwed her up).

People that say they find sex grotesque and disgusting have learned or have been taught to repress their sexual urges. Your friend was probably raised in an environment that most would deem 'traditional' in the sense that women were not really allowed to be horny or promiscuous. As members of the homo genus, we all do things subconsciously for the sake of reproducing. Your primal instincts want you to have kids, to pass on your genes, however, the conscious part of your brain is negating that instinct whether by experience, knowledge, etc...and that's what separates humans from other living things. Whereas they live to reproduce without fully comprehending the complexity of reproduction, we as humans live to reproduce whilst being able to either control or negate those urges through our higher level of consciousness.

because society has been messing with your mind and your biology in multiple ways. for instance the idea of going to school and being taught by an authoritarian figure who is often the objective of your crush.

Instincts are supposed to get you to want to have sex and not think beyond. Once you become pregnant (a stage you have not reached) you will find other influences creeping in. you cannot experience that unless you get to that point.
