Why is it hard to get pregnant & why does it take so long?

I always hear of these married couples who begin trying for children & them having no success for months or a year or 2. But then, I have over 20 girlfriends who have had children at 15/16 and pregnancy occurred after having sex for the first time. I heard that a couple should wait a minimum of 2 years before assuming anything. So, why is it hard to get pregnant? Is it age or just circumstances?

  • There's so many different reasons why. There could be something wrong with the guy's sperm and/or the female has problems with her eggs and personal fertility. There's so many scenarios when it comes to infertility. For every pregnant teenager you have to remember that there's thousands of other teenagers who are having unprotected sex and still not getting pregnant due to infertility in the situation. I think you're just seeing this because both are out of the norm. If those younger teenagers were older it would be a different scenario if that makes sense.

  • Keep in mind that biologically, 15-16 is the normal time for women to start having children, and that historically, having kids happened between 15 and 25 years of age. Today, people aren't getting married until around 30 on average, so women are already past their prime baby-making years. It's only because we have advanced medicine that many of these women have kids at all.

Biology takes many centures to change, and our society has only changed in this aspect starting about 50 years ago.

  • Not al lwomen get pregannt so easily, especially if they've been on the pill for a long time, because their hormones are out of balance. 15 or 16y ear olds not surprisingly are more likely to get pregnant quickly because the haven't been on any pills, or at least, not for long.

A lot of men have a low sperm count, so it's not easy for them to get someone pregnant. Sometimes impossible, in fact, it's not uncommon.

  • Well some people get pregnant easily, some don't.

    Age is a factor.

I'd guess that some (though not all) of the 'i got pregnant the first time whoops' people are lying.

  • i think its easier to get pregnant if you are under 25, read an article regarding that but I don't know about its accuracy

    maybe psychological reasons

the lady is trying to have a child but the husband is slipping birth control pills into her food :)

    • oh when you are younger you are also having sex a lot more often :)

  • Because today people marry and have kids WAY too late than they're supposed to.

When people are aging, then either the man or the woman or both of them lose their fertility.

And don't forget about alcohol, nicotine, drugs and sh*tty food which also has great impact.

  • different couples have different problems. sometimes it is the guy (low sperm count or defective sperm) or it is the girl (lack of good egg or problems with the egg attachment after fertilization). some couples have no problems at all they just have to do it on the day the egg is ready.

  • It shouldn't be hard for the majority of couples. While it is simple random chance, it is more likely with more sex that a women will get pregnant. I had friend who had unprotected sex all the time for 2 years before she got pregnant and then a month after she was able to conceive again, she did. If it's taking many years to have a baby then there is usually a problem with either one partner or both.
