Actually I should add something ... it looks better on women as they get older. I mean on a 20 year old its kind of hot but screams 'look I got dressed up for sex'. An elegant and attractive 40 year old can pull it off in a 'of course I wear $400 french lace lingerie under my clothing every day, do I look like a peasant?' way.
They do actually have a kind of stocking where the silicone grip band is slightly lower on the lace at the top so that you can use them for either a garter or on their own. Of course those are just for frisky business. But I was referring to the two types seperately. :) Also, I completely see what you mean about them looking more elegant on someone who is older. It is more of a surprise rather than, "I put on this outfit so you'd have sex with me!" (to paraphrase what you said).
Younger women can pull off the high sock look without it looking like weird fetish wear, and older women can pull off garter belts more easily. I mean I like both in both, but looks more natural/hot rather then 'dressed up hot'
