What you told him about cold sores is true. I can understand him being upset, but you obviously didn't do it on purpose. The stigma around it is silly, I'm sure he wouldn't be so upset if you gave him strep throat, but it's really not that different.
As for the other question: cold sores and genital herpes are both caused by the HSV virus. There are two (important) types of HSV, called HSV-A and HSV-B. Usually genital herpes is caused by one and cold sores by the other, but there are exceptions. So while it is possible to contract herpes from the mouth to the genitals, the probability is not very high. Still, you should monitor down there to see if you develop sores.

well my MIL gave cold sores to my daughter when she was very little by letting her use her chapstick (which I asked her NOT to do) when she had a cold sore. So I'm still pretty pissed at her about it because it's a lifetime of cold sores for my daughter now and something she'll always have to deal with so while it's not really your 'fault' yeah I can see why he's upset. All you can do is tell him that you didn't have an active cold sore and you didn't think it was contagious when you kissed him and you never intended to pass it to him and you're sorry.
I've had a cold sore before, when I was small. Never had one since. Doesn't mean she's going to have them all the time.

Herpes genitalis is caused by HSV type B, and herpes labialis with type A. They're different and there re very few people who haven't "caught it". It doesn't mean that he'll be damaged for life. He'll just have to wait until the little wound is healed. And it's not like he;s gonna have it all the time-it will only appear when his immunity is down (so basically he'll have the virus forever in his blood, but the manifestation will appear from time to time, depending from his health).
Cold sores and herpes aren't the same thing. Buy him some abreva and tell him to shut up.

No I don't doubt your not, just saying, you need to be very careful with infections below, and never let a guy go down if he has any kind of scab anywhere, not just round his mouth, otherwise if you do get it, you will always get outbreaks, no matter how many times you treat it, so if your lucky enough to not of contracted it, don't let him near your bits until he is clean, and seriously, its got to be him who gave it to you, because his would not of come out so quickly.x

genital herpes and a cold sore you get on your lip are different types of herpes and you shouldn't get anything down there.
Type one herpes is around the mouth, type 2 herpes is genital, but type one becomes type two, but type 2 does not become type 1, so it can be spread to your genitals from the mouth.
actually type 2 can become type one. I have read accounts where people have received genital herpes on the lips so its very possible

first off cold sores are completely natural, he shouldn't get mad because he got one from you when you weren't showing any symptoms of it.
secondly its a REALLY low chance that you can get genital herpes from coldsores, they are totally different but you can always get tested if you are really uncertain.

Its a cold sore idiot! 80-90% of the population has had one even 4 year olds get it from sharing drinks. First of all I didn't have a cold sore and it wasn't showing so please do your research before posting because you made yourself look like an idiot.
