Am I too big for my boyfriend?

my boyfriend is extremely skinny. he is 6'2' and 155 pounds, and I don't mind at all ( I think it's cute, haha) but lately I have started to feel out of place next to him because I am a little more..erm...soft? I mean...i don;t know, I'm 5'8 and around 135-140. I have hips, and a bit of a soft stomach, but he has never made any comments about it, I just feel huge when I am with him...and whenever he picks me up or touches my stomach/hips, I get really nervous, like he might be disgusted or disappointed... does he not like my body, but is just too nice to tell me? do skinny guys like "softer" girls? should I try to loose some weight? how much "softness" is okay before you are just plain fat? (also, his last girlfriend was anorexic and it was really upsetting for him, so sometimes I wonder if he only likes my body because he knows I don't have an eating disorder...)

  • honey, you are not fat, you and I would be the same size and height and everything!

if he didn't like the way you looked, honestly, would he be with you? I'm guessing no.

guys like different types of girls and bodies, and he obviously likes the "healthy" size girl.

and you said you get nervous when he picks you up. . . HE CAN PICK YOU UP WHICH MEANS YOUR NOT TOO BIG OR HEAVY FOR HIM! lmao

don't worry about it, I bet you have a lovely womanly healthy shape that most girls would die for!

    :D

  • the way I see it is that you're the one with the normal weight. 5'8" and between 135 and 140 lbs actually sounds you have an AWESOME figure so I wouldn't change a thing about you. your boyfriend should have some more weight on him. and I know that most guys who are that thin can't gain weight in fat because of their metabolism. but if he worked out, he could gain muscle mass which would make him larger...you see what I mean? it's not who's unusually large, it's him who's underweight.

    • Hahaha yeah, he's pretty freakishly thin. but I don't want to just tell him to gain weight so I feel better about myself. i just wonder if he ever touches me and thinks "huh?"

    • You're healthy so it doesn't matter. you are the way you're supposed to be.

  • Stop worrying, you're fine. Guys tend to prefer it when girls have a little softness to them because it's more feminine. It sounds like you have totally normal proportions and I'm sure he loves them.

  • well if he hasn't said and e thing about it

im sure you have nothing to worry about

    maybe ur just over analyze?

but yea I'm skinny but I don't prefer "soft" women

but if I REALLY cared for the girl I would not care at all

and don't let his past exp. get to you

there's a reason he's not with her and e more

    and

there also is a reason he's with you

    good luck

    =D

  • Proportionally, you sound just fine and I don't believe you have anything to be concerned about - your BMI is well within the normal range, and it appears that your boyfriend likes you for who you are, so you're good. Also, I can empathize with your guy's speed demon-esque metabolism, as I'm 6'2" and 160.

    • It's just not fair. hmph. >,<

  • It sounds like you guys are pretty happy together so obviously it's not a problem to him. People have different preferences and I can't speak for you bf. If it's not broke though don't fix it. If everything is going fine enjoy it!

  • No. You sound fine. If he hasn't said anything about it, he almost definitely has no problem with it. So, don't worry.

  • I don't think he minds but you should try to lose a little bit of weight just for yourself

    • Just for herself? she's 5'8"! she's on the low side of the healthy spectrum on the BMI chart.

    • Have to agree with you 1Fast. She is ok by BMI but depending on her race, she is bit over weight. Just from memory, for her age 10 pounds heavy if she is white and I think it was like 20 pound if black. There is however much more to determining ideal weight than just age and height. If she is concerned she should discuss it with her own physician.

    • You are trying to say a African American woman that is 5'8" should weigh 115lbs? That is VERY underweight. I am 5'2" and my weight should be 110-130. Therefore her being 6 inches taller she should weight what would be a good weight for someone my height. Also, height/weight ratio DOES NOT depend on race. She is the low end of normal weight. That being said someone can be a skinny fat person. Weight can be low with no muscle mass and can look heavier then someone who weights more but is more fit

  • 5'8' and around 135 140? It's a perfect weight!

  • ?!?!

According to the numbers you gave us, your BMI (body mass index) is around 20.5. Normal is 18.5 to 24.9. Which means a normal weight for you ranges between a little less than 125 lbs. up to 164 lbs. (according to the chart I have).

    • Really? i guess I'm one of those people lucky enough to look bigger than they really are. ha.

  • If he's with you then he likes you for you :)

  • If it bothered him, he wouldn't be your bf.
