Well, depends. Technically a pedophile is someone with a sexual interest in children and doesn't necessarily mean they've done anything wrong yet (as in acted on it). For those who have acted on it, I think they shouldn't get a chance anymore to be a part of society. For those who haven't acted on it, we should be more understanding and encourage them to seek therapy to deal with it and hopefully correct it.
Btw, enough with calling anyone who finds 14-17 year olds attractive a pedophile. While they're stupid because girls and boys that age range are generally immature and not interesting to be with in a relationship, it's technically NOT pedophilia because they are post-puberty. It's ephebophilia then. And technically from like 10/11 to 13 is Hebephilia, also not pedophilia.

Personally, no. I'm of the opinion that people who have left lasting trauma on their victims lives; pedophiles, rapists, murderers etc, deserve rehabilitation in the form of a bullet.
For someone to do something as sick and depraved as that there must be something abnormal in the way their mind works and honestly, we know too little about the mind to fix it. I mean just the other day I heard about two brothers being released who had escaped from a prison some years ago after killing an inmate, they then proceeded to flag down and kill a police officer, after which they held an entire class of children hostage where they raped and killed the teacher.
As far as I'm concerned, no time anything shorter than life ia deserving of these creatures and to me they lost all their human rights when they so readilly deprived another of them.
human rights exist independant of whether or not somebody believes in them. The whole idea of it then becomes nonsensical.
I never said they don't exist, I said that if someone denies another person their human rights (ie: they murder/rape them) then their own human rights are forfeit.
Some recent research has actually shown that maybe pedophilia is in your genes like homosexuality is. In homosexuality as the two partners (or more) are consentent there is no problem but children aren't and the effects of child abuse are just terrible, it's literally destroying the children's life. When we think about pedophilia, we think actually think about two things, someone who is attracted to children and a rapist. In this way, I think a pedophile can be rehabilitated to not being a rapist anymore even though he will probably still be attracted to children. The problem is pedophile usually have very low morality (if you compare to Kohlberg's stage of moral) as many other criminal so it's hard to ''change them''. It's hard to stop someone's libido so that's mostly why there is so much recidivism with pedophiles.
No, I don't think so. Someone has to be an extremely sick and demented person to act on their feelings for little kids. That's an extreme mental problem which is something that I don't think can be rehabilitated like other criminals may be able to. There is just not enough information out there about the human brain to be able to know how to "fix" someone like a pedophile.
i'd say no. it's like the gay reformist camps, you can't fully if ever change what you're sexually attracted to. They can deny it or fight it, but it's still there

They tend to be model prisoners, so they tend to be released early, but that's only because they are schemers who understand the system and are very, very goal-oriented, which is: to get back out and get another kid.
Plus, prison is NOT a rehabilitation center, for any crime or any criminal. It is strictly punishment, but for people who believe they are right and want to do what they want to do, it isn't enough punishment to stop them. They will just work harder to avoid being caught the next time, which in this case often means abducted children who are then killed so there are no witnesses, such as the Polly Klass case.
IMO, the only way to "rehabilitate" these people is a .45ACP bullet to the brain.

My recollection is that the sort of immature gentle types (and there are a few celebrities who have been accused of ring in this camp) can be taught how potentially damaging it is and perhaps avoid it.
Violent pedophiles are pretty much impossible to fix. They already know how bad it is, but they cannot control the compulsion. I believe some are much less dangerous when much older.
Note I'm talking about traditional rehab. Physical castration would change things dramatically.

pedophiles are a form of sociopaths. Most pedophiles are attracted to children because they find them easer to approach then adults so they go after them as sexual partners. This happens because of constant rejection or isolation from normal adult social groups. Also the pedophiles up bringing plays a big role on this sick behavior, For example if they were sexually abused as a child. There is no way to rehabilitate this. We can only lock them up or execute them.

I am not going to play thought police here. If they get attracted to young people then fine whatever just keep it as a thought and we won't have any issues.
They do not seem to be motivated by the same reasons as other criminals. We don't even understand whether or not it is a psychological problem, or if they have something physically wrong with them that makes them that way. Either a new form of therapy needs to be created, or a new type of medicine needs to be created to make them normal. As it stands now, I don't believe they can be rehabilitated.
