Do guys make up stories about having sex?

For a while I believed that my guy friend (who you wouldn't call attractive) picked up girls at the mall to become f*ck buddies with. He told me they once had a pregnancy scare and everything. And my other guy friend (equally unattractive) said he had these twin childhood friends who he'd Skype with and give presents to because they sort of treated him as their shared boyfriend. When I mentioned this to my boyfriend, though, he laughed in my face and said both my friends were playing me. He said that's just something guys do, make up stories about having had sex even though they haven't. He said that when his friends would talk about sex before, he'd just nod along as if he'd experienced it even though he hadn't at the time. Do a lot of guys really do this?

  • Yes, lots of guys do that. And it's so obvious, it's hilarious.

I lost my virginity at 15 (it was seriously a fluke/pure luck, as I had very little confidence then), which was earlier than almost all guys I went to school with. I remember hearing guys bragging about having sex (who clearly hadn't), and often they'd describe things that were just hilariously wrong. If you've seen The 40 Year-Old Virgin, you might remember the "bags of sand" line. Some of these were worse.

The guys who had had sex never bragged about it publically. They might talk a bit about it one-on-one, and if pushed in public, they might make a very short acknowledgment and change the subject, but they'd never tell long stories. That was for liars who were trying to impress people with things they'd never done.

That's why your boyfriend picked up on it so fast: the very fact that they were bragging about it makes them full of crap.

Another example: I was in band since 4th grade, and a friend of mine was in band with me, but he also performed in a rock band with his older brothers since he was 9 or 10. He was always popular as a result, but when he was 13, they made a video that got on an MTV contest, and they won the grand prize early the next year. Locally, he was a superstar, and he and his brothers got laid, a LOT. At 15, he'd probably slept with 1000 girls, from 13 to 30 years of age. One time, at 17, he came to me for advice, and mentioned sex for the first time, and he certainly didn't find it easy to talk about, because he NEVER talked or bragged about it. He never had to; everyone knew he was getting laid, because the girls weren't shy about admitting it and talking about it to their friends.

One more example that's not directly related, but still relevant; I've met a number of elite special-forces guys: Navy SEALs, Delta Force, Force Recon, etc. These are guys who have been there, and done that. They never brag or boast, and almost never discuss any actions, even generically. They don't have to.

I've also met a few "special forces" guys who had tons of stories about the guys they'd killed and the missions they went on. And every one of them was completely full of crap; they were clerks and cooks and basic infantry, nothing more. Those who don't DO will brag, and those who DO never have to.

    • Yeah I can see how that makes sense. I always figured the guys who did do something didn't find the need to brag about it.

  • When they are young and inexperienced, yeah. But once a guy has lost his virginity, he usually stops doing that and chills out.

  • Boys do men don't.

  • Yes. When I was young immature, inexperienced and not having any

  • Yes they do and they look pathetic

  • Unattractive! How judgmental of you. Even bit mean.

Anyway , not many make up stories.

    • Haha Sorry, I wouldn't have said that if my boyfriend and his best friend hadn't said it too. But, objectively speaking, they're not really attractive (though I did get crushes on both of them).
