Girls losing virginity at 14?

First off, let me say there are a lot of nice guys and nice girls. More than there are non-nice guys and girls. And so this is a question not about which gender is nicer but about double standards (uh oh!). There was a question recently asking the age old "where have all the good men gone?" and one guy responded that because women lose their virginity at 14 nowadays men have no reason to be good. Is that true? What about the other way around? What about the boys and men who sleep with these 14 year olds? Is it okay for a 14 year old boy to lose his virginity? Or should that cause women to have no reason to be good either? Is it okay for a guy older than 14 to have sex with a 14 year old girl? Or should that cause women to have no reason to be good either? Is it the same or should the 14 year old thing only be an excuse for men to be "bad" but not for women?

  • Basically, men will adjust their behavior if its going to change who they can have sex with.

For a long time, the vast majority of girls would only have sex with their husband, and would only marry a guy who was stable, employed, okay reputation. So the way to get sexual access to women other then prostitutes was to get stable employment and go to church and be seen as a respectable grown up.

There are lots of reasons why becoming a respectable grown up is still beneficial for men, but its not so much a way to get laid, especially for the young. So lots of guys are not going to jump through the old hoops given they no longer deliver the same payoff.

    • If guys don't have to jump through hoops to become "respectable grown ups", why should girls? You said that guys have less hoops to jump through nowadays to get sex, so shouldn't they be happy that girls are more willing to have sex now than before? And if girls like sex as much as guys, why should they control their sex drive if men don't have to when it doesn't deliver the same payoff (getting married) anymore?

    • Girls don't have to jump through hoops to have sex, and never did. They perhaps have to jump through some hoops to get married, but a lot of women simply aren't marrying now. They might want to, but they don't prioritize it as much as women in the past. I'm not suggesting at the moment this is good or bad, just that it -is-. As for 'should women hold off on sex to trap guys into getting married', really that is something that works or doesn't work at a societal level.

  • Society has expected more from its women, so this falls down the generations as we get older, and no matter how old we get, society will always expect more from women, so if guys lose their virginities at 14, this does not make it OK for a girl to, and this is where equality battles have been arroused, because women want equality, but society still wants to hold on to the expectations it has for its women, so women are treated with a stigma if they try and act like men, its unfair, but its true.

  • Somewhat.

See, it's a rite of passage if a boy loses his virginity at age 14 - it's an accomplishment. It takes hard work for him to get laid. It's easy for a girl to get laid, so it's nothing to boast about.

    • At 14 girls are impressionable, young and hormonal. All they want is a boyfriend and a boy's approval. Getting sex from a 14 year old girl is easier than getting sex from a 20 year old girl because a 20 year old girl knows about the "slut" stereotype and that they can get things in return for giving sex other than just being liked by a boy or popular. It would be an accomplishment if a 14 year old boy got a 20 year old girl to have sex, though...but it would also be rape on the girl's part.

    • LOL Likewise - sex with a 14 year old girl would be illegal

    • What does that rite of passage gain him when older? Not much, since everyone else catches up.

  • Let's get one thing straight: without proper guidance from a young age, no one has a the incentive to be good.

I don't think 14 anything should be having sex for any reason. That time should be on school until 18 or at least let it happen naturally when they find someone they want to have sex with.

  • I am actually 14 and i lost my virginity 1 month ago

  • heck, I have a friend who claims he lost his virginity when he was 12, in 6th grade, but near the end of it, lol

  • Girls shouldn't be having sex that young and neither should guys. It's messed up.

    • For the most part - yes.
