It isn't that individual men are proud per se but that just so happens to be the current global culture. In current culture where sexology has broken through many elements and facts are declared about female stimulation and orgasm one of the major factors is that in general in lab testing and some polling it was found some years ago that larger objects had a great effect and those objects were ( though not by much no one seems to remember that part ) on average larger than the average human penis.
A few games of telephone by the media later and you have the idea that a large penis is equivalent to pleasuring females, and pleasuring females in global culture is considered a valuable skill, therefore masculinity, therefore my d*** being bigger than yours makes me more of a man.
It's horrible logic but no different than the concept that wearing glasses means you're smart ( even though humans do factually perceive people in glasses as more intelligent for no reason ) because apparently having bad eyesight means your brain collects more stuff in books. This is because it was a sign of age when they were invented and the people who wore them were rich and being rich meant being educated so ... Anyway, you get it.
You'll find generally 9 times out of 10 that the guys who "flaunt and feel the need to brag about their size" are the ones who are actually just average size. Or below. It makes them feel like a man to talk about themselves and puff themselves and their ego up. Because every woman wants a ginormous d***. Well that's what most guys think.
I mean, I actually have no need to brag because I don't see my d*** as big. Never have. because I'm tall and solid build to me it just looks proportioned. On the other hand I've been told by all the girls I've been with that its big? So I don't know if it is or if they were just saying that.

It's an ego thing. Honestly, girls have told me there is such a thing as "too big" and it hurts. Plus p*rn screws up people's views on sex. I've read that girls have to prepare their vaginas for such a size so it don't hurt. Some couples can barely even have sex due to the size and pain it causes a woman, especially virgins.
