How do some women get 'accidentally' pregnant these days?

I just don't see how it is possible. They must not care that much. It is way too risky if you are not in a stable marriage. You have to be REALLY careful. I take my pill at the same time every day. I have an alarm to remind me. They are over 99% effective if you take them properly. Some men may not use condoms correctly so in my opinion they are not an effective form of birth control on their own. Even though it may affect your body, I think hormonal birth control is the only way to go. I would rather use it than have a screaming baby in my hands that I have to raise for the next 18 years -- and kids aren't cheap. If anyone has a story of how they or someone they know accidentally got pregnant, I really want to hear how.

  • Well to an extent I agree with you. If you take enough steps, its basically impossible. I too have been a supporter of both the girl being on the pill and using a condom.

That said, some girls can't take the pill, and some other contraceptives fail. One of my friends literally just got pregnant a month ago and she is 21. She was wearing one of those things that they insert up into your vagina that is supposed to stop you from getting pregnant. She can't take birth control because she is on blood thinners for blood clots. Some how she still got pregnant. The way she put it "my boyfriend must have super sperm".

But yes, some people are just dumb, and honestly these people (typically from low income areas) who just keep popping out kids have no excuse.

You also have to realize the way our entitlement system works in this country. For many women, its more beneficial to have a kid out of wedlock because the gov't gives them way more money and support, not to mention the courts usually favor the women and force the men to do things like pay child support. I've seen women collecting thousands a month without lifting a finger all because she got knocked up by a bunch a couple of guys. So some women use it as a financial tool, which is why as a guy, I tell other guys to always be careful and take birth control into your own hands. Never trust the women.

    • Nothing in this world is really foolproof and if someone presents something that's foolproof, the next day , week or month, some fool will disprove it. Trains and planes should be pretty fool proof and are used by qualified personnel, yet the accidents in Lac M?gantic and San Francisco were caused by human error, NOT by sabotage.

    • Yeah god only knows why it failed in my friends case. For all I know the doctor who implanted it was an idiot and messed up, or maybe she did something or was on something that lowered its efficacy. Maybe it simply is only 99% effective and her Boyfriend had some strong sperm that just sneaked one passed the goalie. Again, being a person who is paranoid about having kids when I'm not ready, I always use 2 methods of contraception. Most of the time at least.

    • Your friend used a diaphragm. My mom used that as well and got pregnant at 20. This is because they can shift during sex due to different positions. She could of used spermicide as well as a condom though... that would of dramatically decreased the chances. Spermicide isn't hormones, it just kills the man's sperm.

  • its not an accident some women just want to have babies, they have a need for babies as many as they can have. when you were younger were there not some girl who play with lots of dolls and some who payed with one and some who played with none. its an inbuilt drive to have babies. they might call it an accident but they want the accident to happen and mostly they let it happen because they want lots of babies, they guy does not care because sex without a condom is infinitely better then sex with a condom

    • I really want children too but not until I'm financially stable and married. So how is sex without a condom better? How are there stories where men say that the condom slipped off and they didn't even notice then?

  • Yeah it's quite shocking to me as well considering it's actually not "easy" to get pregnant. Women can't get pregnant each day. I'm quoting from a site " any women grow up hearing that they can get pregnant any day of the month. This is usually information given to them by well meaning, but protective adults who may themselves be misinformed. The fact is that there are only a limited number of days each cycle when a woman can get pregnant - the five days before she ovulates and the 24 hours after she ovulates. These six days are the only fertile days of a woman's cycle". link

So basically... it's really easy to avoid getting pregnant. You just need to know your body and being on the pill makes it significantly easier to see when you can get pregnant and when you can't. I'm on the pill myself and think it's a wonderful invention. I'm so thankful for its existence. But anyway, I think a lot of women just don't take it seriously. They think it can't happen to them and they don't think about the consequences. If they feel horny, they just get down and do it without even considering what could happen. So it's naivety, arrogance and stupidity that mostly leads to accidental pregnancies.

    • ./.. In plain English this means that 70% of women can and do ovulate at irregular moments and can thus get pregnant about any day of the month. That's why the rhythm method is only interesting as a small help to couples who want to conceive. NOT as birth control method

    • Women should be advised that the timing of their fertile window can be highly unpredictable, even if their cycles are usually regular.

      ___end of quote

    • You might want to know this: __I quote from the British Medical Journal: The timing of the 'fertile window' in the menstrual cycle: day specific estimates from a prospective study Conclusions: In only about 30% of women is the fertile window entirely within the days of the menstrual cycle identified by clinical guidelines -that is, between days 10 and 17. Most women reach their fertile window earlier and others much later.

  • Because people are uneducated about sex/fertility and to put it simply, they're stupid. If you are 100% responsible and use many forms of birth control, then there is no excuse as to why you got pregnant. People say "Oh it was an accident" It wasn't an accident, you weren't trying hard enough to prevent it. If you aren't using ANY birth control, it's not an accident. You are an idiot.

  • I was an accident! Lol. My mom already had my brother and she wanted another baby, but she didn't want them so close together. I'm not sure how it happened... I doubt she was on the pill. And my mom does come from a family with very fertile women haha. I guess she didn't care that much. :)

  • Great question and I think I know the answer but not going to repeat it on a site like this. It's crazy to say the least!

  • This is a damn good question.

  • there is always the 1%. for the others, carelessness, I suppose? or just plain not knowing?

  • short answer: people are stupid or lazy

there's no such thing as an "accident," imo, at least not several times. you can't call it an accident if you knowingly fail to take BC properly, then get knocked up

    • "fail to take take BC properly" indeed. User errors thus BC has been known to fail when used together with other medication, like some antibiotics and corticosteroids. BC has been known to fail when used when the girl has heavy diarrhea or when she vomits. - taken irregularly. Condoms often fail if -conserved too hot or crooked in a wallet. -slipping off when the penis goes limp after ejaculation and the condom spills in the vagina. -taken off behind the girls back -simply 'forgotten'

    • 99% effective if you take them properly, indeed. But doctors and pharmacists often fail to inform the girl about the correct way to use them.

  • i have use condom

  • well ignorance.

  • sometimes accident happnes, but I hate HATE "baby daddy" it sounds white trashy
