Why do people make fake hot-girl Facebook profiles?

I have a male friend who has at least a dozen FB friends who are semi-naked/seductive women in foreign countries. Some of the profiles are very obvious fakes e.g. a completely different girl from one profile pic to another. Why do people set these up? Is there a business behind it or are they just lonely old women who want to receive kinky messages from strangers? Do guys cop that it's a fake? As soon as this guy ends something with a girl he has a new fake friend daily until he stops being FB friends with his ex. I don't even know how he finds them all and it makes me question his intelligence a little.

I've been guilty of this... I believe it's called "cloud girlfriend."

It's to generate buzz - As in life, anytime a woman pays attention to another man, other women will take notice and follow ("When it rains, it pours.") It's kind of pathetic in its own way, BUT it truly does work ;)

Remember the movie CLUELESS? Cher (Alicia Silverstone) would send herself flowers to make herself feel better and to capture everyone's attention around her... When we have people paying attention to us, other people pay attention to us. Simple as that.

Probably a combo of spammer/scammers and lonely old women. And you should question his intelligence.

It's because they want to get more friends
