My first massage ever but did my masseuse take things to far or is this normal for a body massage?

I'm 25 years old I teach a cross fit class at the gym that I go to. I was telling one of the girls that comes to my class about how my shoulders have been hurting and she recommended that I go get a massage. I've never actually gone somewhere to get a massage it's always been a boyfriend rubbing my back and shoulders for me so I thought I would give it a try. I made an appointment and went to a masseuse yesterday, I was a little bit unsettled about having someone I did not know rub their hands all over me but at the time I did not care because my shoulders were hurting pretty bad. What made it more unsettling was that it was a guy just a few years older than me that was the masseuse. He brought me back to a room gave me a towel and said to take off all of my clothes lay on the table and place the towel over me. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to take my underwear off as well so I did, bra and panties. I laid facedown on the table put the towel over my butt a few minutes later he knocked on the door and came in. He asked me if I wanted a full body massage or just a shoulder massage. I was kind of treating myself for my first time so I said do the full body massage. He started with my shoulders and it was feeling great I could feel the stress and tension just pouring out. He worked his way down my back and rubbed my side I wasn't expecting him to rub his hands over my side boobs but sure enough he was massaging those too. He move down to the side of the table and started working on my legs he folded towel up close to my butt and pulled it up WAY! further than I expected pretty much up to my butt cheeks. I did not look back to see exactly what the situation was but I felt certain he could see my vagina while he was rubbing my legs that's how far he towel was up on my butt cheeks. I felt pretty uncomfortable at this point and was wondering if this was a little too much for me and was this normal procedure. When he was done with my legs he asked me to roll over on my back and he would place a towel over my breasts, he held the towel that was covering my butt while I rolled over and I just kept my arm over my boobs and he got me a ridiculously small towel that was like the size of a kitchen towel and laid it over my boots while I moved my arm. He began rubbing my shoulders and my chest all in between and around my boobs pretty much rubbing everything but my actual nipples themselves. He stood up by my head grabbed my arms and pulled them up over my head rubbing my arms and when he did both of my boobs fell out of that little towel that was covering me up. He took the towel picked it up exposing my boobs even more folded it and then laid back down on top of me. He worked down to my legs once again exposing my vagina, worked his way down to my feet and then he was finished I was beginning to wonder if this is how every massage went or if he was taking things too far. Is this normal for a full body massage or was he taking advantage of me?

  • I've been an MT for 25 years and have given more massage than I'd care to remember.
First, if it's a male therapist, he's a masseur. A female therapist is a masseuse. That's why most of us just like to go with Massage Therapist.
    But I digress- - -
Overall, I do not see any red flags, maybe a yellow one, but this seems fairly Kosher.
I use full sheet draping and will "slip sheet" a towel for breast and/or ab work. When working with a towel on a female, it goes across the butt when face down, lengthwise when face-up, with a slip sheet if breast work is being done.
As far as breast work when face down - - to work the chest muscles when face down (yes, it can be done) the hand actually slips behind the breast tissue per se, staying on the chest wall. Is this what he did?
re: posterior hip work (butt) - working and undraping one leg at a time, there should be no vagina showing. Folding the towel up on both sides could be a touch questionable. But, there are a number of deep pelvic muscles requiring work (that are typically avoided due to just this issue), that call for a high hip drape but yet avoiding the vagina.
My biggest question with his session is, if he knew that this was your first session, why didn't he briefly go through the protocol and then during the session, introduce each segment in a bit more detail. This is my SOP for all of first-timers. It is also incumbent on the client to ask questions BEFORE starting any work. I'll gladly give anyone who asks 10 minutes of my time just to explain what any of my treatments entail.
Finally, it is best if the client removes as much clothing as possible to facilitate smoother transitions during the massage. If I am doing sport work or "dry work" (no oil or cream) loose gym clothing work ok, but I'd prefer someone wear tight, stretchy clothing so that nothing "shows".

  • I studied massage therapy for a few years. A full body massage is a lot like getting a bikini wax or any other of a number of procedures that deal with more private areas of the human anatomy.

With something like that, part of the comfort comes from the professionalism of the person working on you...and part of is comes from your own expectations of the experience.

It doesn't sound like he did anything out of line. It just sounds like you were unprepared for what the experience was going to be.

With everyone I used to work on, the first thing I would ask if I hadn't see them before or I didn't remember them, I would ask, "Is this your first massage?" And if you said yes, then I would go on to explain about the full body massage and what all it involved, so you would feel more comfortable about it. But a lot of people in the industry don't spend that extra time.

And as far as him seeing your boobs or vagina, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but when you massage 15 or 20 people a day, you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. It's not something that even occurs to you. At that point, it's just a part of the body. If the towel falls off, you cover it back up and move on.

  • I'm new to massage & it was recommended by my doctor due to Brest issues. I'm high risk & have mammograms very 3 months, followed by utrasound, then an MRI. I'd done research regarding therapeutic breast massage & read several books on this topic.
Living in a small town, my options are few.
I tried one MT who was new & very heavy handed. I gave her another try ($100 hr+tip), but still too intense for me (& she never thanked me, & I was very sore & even bruised in places both times, but didn't know what to expect the first time, which is why I tried again)& that can have an adverse effect, damaging breast tissue.
I'd given the reflexology place a try, as they're far less expensive. There'were 3 tables in a common room & it aesthetically pleasing & was relaxing, but not private. They give you an Asian set set to change into & the top opens in the front (?) similar to a woman's hospital down. After two times doing it this way, I decided to ask a new person at their front desk (who understood Eng better) if full frontal massage was possible with the same person I had used before,& he said it was. I selected a private room for $5 extra. It was precisely what I was looking for. I'm very modest, but he was very professional,& actually I was so relaxed, I asked if he wanted to remove the drape, (as it would be easier to access both breasts, so I removed it.
My entire body was relaxed, because I had used him a couple times before, & clearly communicated my expectations & got precisely what I was looking for.
I went again today & I always tip him very nicely.
    I'll be a regular customer.

  • Nope this is very wrong this is not how they work I always keep myself covered and they never get on top or uncover the private areas. You should have said no tho. I would tell the manager.

    • But it was a full massage, and you do have muscles in the places where you don't like people seeing.

  • it sounds normal to me, I wouldn't worry about it:) but it can be quite and experience the first time you try it..

  • No.

If he was a licensed massage therapist (don't call them masseurs/masseuses), this is all typical. The rules about draping, covering private areas, vary from place to place, but this all sounds legit to me. Your breasts cover your pectoral muscles, the only way to massage them is to go through the breasts. As for feeling exposed, massage therapists are trained like medical personnel and are health care professionals, this means that IF he saw any of your private bits, it's no different than a doctor seeing them.

If there was no inappropriate touching (the breast rubbing is normal) and no inappropriate comments or behavior from him, there's just nothing to complain about here. The general rule for undressing is "to your own comfort level". You're free to stay as covered or exposed as you wish, it's their job to work around it. Since you went fully nude, he probably assumed that you were comfortable and wouldn't be bothered by the way he did things. Next time leave your underwear on if it bothered you this much. Additionally, you're in complete control of everything, if you don't want your breasts rubbed, simply tell him to skip that part. MTs are very well trained and are more than happy to accommodate their clients' requests, after all their job is to make you feel healthy and relaxed.

  • Damn close to being Kosher but certainly revealing.
The younger gals that do me don't get that personal but don't mind going where the pain is to release it.

  • I think the therapist was saving time and not explaining what a full body massage is. I would assume a full body massage means, a full body including everything but the genitals and breasts.

  • All the massages I have ever had keep you completely covered. I would mention it to the manager of the spa.

  • I have only had one professional massage before but this was almost exactly my experience too, so I think it's pretty normal.

  • Do you have his number?

    • Atta girl

  • Ma'am: That does not sound like a comfortable situation at all and surely out of the normal.

  • Sounds hot lol

  • agrees with BatDoc. i had to study alittle bit of message therapy for nursing course, and a full body message is what it exactly means. now if you can't handle that, then you should not even be wasting that persons time

  • I'm not a woman, so I have no idea what's normal and what isn't for boob massages, but when I get full body massages they do mean the whole thing, ass cheeks and all. You DO have muscles in there, and athletes, like myself, do get pain there. I also strip down buck naked just sort of let them do what they want. I've had both male and female massage therapists.

Next time you really should just speak up if you're uncomfortable with certain parts of you getting touched. Massage therapists are paid to touch you. You should just tell them where next time. And if it's that big of a problem, next time get a female masseuse. I have zero issues with a woman feeling up my crotch, and I do get a lot of muscle pain there, but that isn't everyone. Massages are supposed to be relaxing. You can't do that if you're always worried about whether or not you're being molested.

  • I am now changing professions.

  • sounds ordinary to me. usually when a guy receives a massage from a woman she finishes him off with a hand job

doesn't sound like a big deal to me

    • Umm I don't think that's how it works in the professional industry

  • He clearly doesn't understand the true power of the dark side

  • Haha did you saw his boner or did he just f***d you or rubbed your clit?
If not than maybe its normal where you live as it was recommended.

  • This is perfectly normal if you are ever uncomfortable with what your masseuse is doing just tell them

  • Not normal!

  • I'm pretty sure that a standard full body massage

  • sounds strange to me
