  • If there is any possibility for a child, then I feel it is morally wrong due to the increased odds for birth defects or death. Note, however, that some women drink heavily, smoke, or do drugs while pregnant which also can increase the odds of birth defects or premature birth. Although the outcome is the same, the taboo level against incest is much stronger--most likely because the taboo has existed for a very long time...

Assuming there was absolutely no possibility for a child to be conceived, then it still might be considered immoral due to setting a bad example (assuming the behavior became common knowledge). If you are just talking two consenting people in a room with no chance of conception and no effects outside the room, then I would say it is up to the two people in the room. However, people have to leave the room sometime, and it might be impossible to prevent knowledge of the situation from being discovered. Therefore, I'd suggest avoiding the situation...

However, given the hypothetical situation of a brother and sister being the last two humans alive in the universe I would think that species survival would take precedent over the incest taboo. And I think most people would agree with it (hypothetically) despite the innate repulsion of incest...

  • Morals must have a foundation, whether a religious tradition or social system. They are not free floating. Historically, incest has been a taboo based on either. So yes. But then sex outside of marriage and homosexual sexual relations are morally wrong in many circles.

Without religion or social underpinnings, we are essentially rudderless and anything goes. Group sex with your lover, mother, brother, daughter, pet dog and a couple of farm animals, anyone? Each of us evokes our version of "morals" at the "Eww" line, I guess.

    • Best answer.

    • it seems you ignore the scientic/genetic consequences but otherwise good answer. there needs to be an acknowledgement of the Autosomal recessive disorders that can occur

    • But the question centered around morals. What all the males wore condoms mitigating any scientific/genetic consequences and "Autosomal" disorders?

  • It's hard to say. Usually siblings that grow up together are not attracted ot each other. Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia may have been the exeption, but generally speaking, being sexually attracted to your sibling is not normal. Genetically speaking it's not such a good idea either. Hard, plain truth is sex can lead to pregnancy, even with using birth control, which is one of the main reasons it's illegal, so ya I think it's wrong.

It's a very different story for more distant relatives, like cousins. Marrying one's cousin has a long tradtion in world history. It's not that abnormal for cousins to be attracted to each other and genetic side effects in possible children are not as severe. I'd say that's alright

  • For ME, yes I consider that morally wrong. However, morals are subjective and depend on a number of factors. Where the person grew up, religious views, political views, etc. What is right to one person may be considered wrong to someone else. I try not to judge other people.

So, I would never, ever engage in incest as I personally feel that it is disgusting and wrong for ME. However, if other people choose to do that then who am I to say that what they are doing is wrong? Like you said, they are adults so my opinion really doesn't matter.

  • It turns my stomach, but if they want to do it that's up to them. They're consenting adults and no one is getting hurt (and no baby is suffering for their actions), so ethically it's hard to find a problem with it. Depending on your morals you could find it morally wrong though. I think I'm indifferent on that subject.

  • No. As long as the persons involved all consent, it's none of my business what they do. It might sound gross to me, but that's their prerogative.

  • Has nothing to do with me, so I don't see why I should have an opinion... In terms of society they'll deem it immoral despite it being referenced throughout many mainstream religions. In logical terms, human biology doesn't accept it... Although there are many animals that partake in incest relationships.

  • I think it depends where your moral compass points. I know of societies and families where it is actually accepted and even in extreme cases forced.

I think it's wrong and should never happen.

  • maybe. but I'm not doing it so idc. I know people who bang their sisters and it does not bother me, actually a turn on lol but still wrong, yes

    • They sure don't sound like classy guys at all.

    • So the guys you know actually admit that they bang their sisters? Why do they do it with them instead of other girls? I guess their sisters must enjoy it too if they let their brothers screw them?

    • both parties enjoy it and I don't know y

  • If they end up having a baby it is going to end up mutated and retarded plus imagine how your parents would feel

    • What if the female used birth control and the male used condoms, or they were gay?

    • It's not a certainty that the child would be deformed, although the odds are much higher. According to Wikipedia, "Studies suggest that 20-36% of these children [from parent-sibling or sibling-sibling incest] will die or have major disability due to the inbreeding." Clearly the odds are high enough to cause the taboo to be developed in almost all societies thousands of years ago (the exceptions were in the ruling classes, where the desire to keep power in the family led to incest).

    • Birth control is never 100% sure, unless surgery is involved (and not even then unless it is a radical procedure which is not normally considered to be "birth control"). If they were gay then there is no possibility for children, and the original motivation for the taboo is gone. However, social constructs are not easily discarded even if there is no rational basis for them. People violating the taboo might have to face social repercussions if it became common knowledge...

  • Morally, yes; ethically, no.

  • Yes that's pretty disgusting. Even thinking about it, I feel like puking.

    • We agree

  • It's wrong in the long run, but if it happens for one generation, the effects are very unlikely to be bad for the child. Still, better to not engage it. It's.. messed up.

  • Yeah, it's still wrong.

  • I'm curious as to why you are asking this question? Are you contemplating having sex with a relative, or have you done that before? Or you know someone in that type of situation?

    • I'm just curious about what people think. I was talking to my friend about it, and I realized how many people think it's wrong, so I wanted to go on here and see if there was anybody who thought it wasn't. Plus, I enjoy these type of questions, and reading people's answers.

    • But I'm curious as to why you were talking to you friend about incest. Like what made you bring that topic up with her? As far as right or wrong, I would say that as long as both parties are willing and no one is coerced, forced, or blackmailed into doing it, and they both enjoy it, there's nothing wrong. I've read a number of posts from women who said they practiced blowjobs on their brothers, and that's how they learned how to do it, and the experience was helpful to them.

    • I wanted to see if I was weird for thinking the way I do (kind of on the off with "normal" people, so...), and she's not a judgmental person, so I know I could ask her anything I would want to. Ah, I see.

  • Wow, I am not sure about morally, every one seems to have their own moral code, but I don't exactly see it as right.

  • yeah I do consider it morally wrong cos you're doing a great disadvantage to your child is going to deal with f***ed up genes that are weakened by inbreeding

    • child... and he/she has to be the one going to deal with f***ed up genes that are weakened by inbreeding

  • Yes, It just seems weird to sleep with a parent or sibling, or any other family member for that matter, it (to me) seems kinda wrong in so many ways

  • It's WRONG.
