Why were movies so damn violent and perverted in the late 80s and early 90s?

am I the only one that had noticed this? i mean I've watched movies from those times and I get terrified. I tell myself "whoa! and people today complain about excessive violence in movies". I even seen some of those movies from that era that I actually grew up watching; Total Recall and Robocop being two of them and I say "wtf! did I really grew up watching this madness". is like back in those days movie were not only hyped on violence but the violent scenes were a lot more graphical and sadist than today's movies. now about the perverted part I tell myself "wow! why can't today movies be like this?". in those days you would see t*ts and ass in scenes that you least expect it to. they even showed a vaginas, unlike nowaday movies were you only see t*ts for a little brief moment. and I must not forget all the excessive love scenes that movies from those days had, I was like "whoa! this puts p*rn to shame". anyways, am I the only one that has noticed this?

  • That was how the demographic wanted their movies to be in that time. They wanted the "reality" of violence, sex, drugs and power. I personally miss those movies. Too much weak sh*t out now, but thank God their in video games.

Also, most Arnold movies were kinda like movies that a kid could watch because of the goofiness it had, even though they weren't for kids, i.e Commando!

    HAHHAH!

    • and Predator, Terminator, and Conan could also go along

  • That scene in Robocop where the robot malfunctioned in the conference room... I was like ...WHAT?! O.o

    • thats nothing! did you remember before he became robocop when he got ambushed in that abandoned factory, when the bad guys emptied out their 12 gauge shotguns at him from every angle. but it still doesn't beat that scene towards the end when one of the bad guy tries to run robocop over with a van. that after robocop successfully dodges the van it then crashes into a toxic waste tank and spills all over and the driver then comes out all rotten like a zombie. now that scene took my soul away

    • I'm pretty sure that's the one scene of the movie that I haven't seen lol but trust me I've heard about it!

    • ...ok, TWO scenes that I haven't seen hahah.

  • I have never heard of this. I always thought the modern day movies were worse but I guess when I was a child I didn't know about the scary movies since it was illegal for me to watch them.

  • It used to help a movies box office if they sprinkled sex in. I beleive that's much less true today. Everyone has hardcore p*rn available in an instant if they want it.

  • To me we have gotten used to the violence idea. However we have not gotten used to the psychological issues and the violence problems when they go hand in hand. A great movie for this example is a new one the Belko Experiment. They had murders and gruesome details, but what everyone was scared about was the psychological problem (survival of the fittest)

  • Actually, I find movies from the late 70s to early 80s to be the most violent...

  • Movies now adays are too afraid to push the violence further and sex. I remember seeing Child's Play and it was gory for its time and really violent for a movie about a doll coming to life.

    • yea I grrew up on those too. sh*t! I remember when I was a kid and evertime I missbehaved my mom would tell "keep it up and chucky is gonna come for you!". but the bride of chucky and seeds of chucky were a joke!

  • I never noticed anything too bad about them. America was going through a period where they were experimenting with nudity in film more then they had up to that point, so there was sometimes nudity in places where it really didn't make sense. As far as violence goes, i80's and 90's action movies seem tamer than most modern movies to me.

  • Because that's what appeals to America.

  • 80's movies are so freaking good!

I would say they are more violent, but not more gory. If that makes any sense at all.

  • Those were the last good days of living in America right there. You had to be there, before the PC crowd took over and ruined things with their watered down BS.

    • lmao! I was there, just not old enough to enjoy those moments. but damn about all that carnage those movies had, I think I'll pass

  • Have you seen any American pie or saw movies? Things are way worse right now

    • are you serious!? I seen movies from the 80s that put American Pie to shame. and I think the original Friday the 13 movies beat Saw by a punch
