I have waxed my butt (and butt crack) before using over the counter in home wax kits. I've use nair wax strips and Aussie Nad's. They both took a lot of hair off, but in general I did not like those in home wax products because they miss a few hairs (and that goes for any use).
So in home wax products will work to some degree. I think that wax that needs to be heated will work better, because it will harden on your skin and attach better to the hair. But I have yet to try.
Don't be embarrassed! I helped my girl learn to shave her ass hole, and our sex life went through the roof. It all looks so much nicer there bare. Just put a hand mirror on the floor and squat over it like peeing outside. You can use a regular razor and shaving cream. Works great. You may want to use a litle baby powder to help the cheeks slide each day. For a more permanent fix. look into a Brazil Wax. Bit of time and money and OUCH involved, but worth it!
I do mine and firstly you need to trim it as close as you can first with a pair of nail scissors, this will reduce the amount of time shaving it. I sit on a towel legs spread and clip away by lifting up one arse cheek and then the other. I then shave round the area.
Don't use Nair/Veet or the like as you will burn your skin and believe me girl you won't be able to sit down for a week afterwards! lol
You can shave it. But good lord it sucks when it grows back in. If you do anything, make sure you get it all, otherwise you'll feel weird
