Are we too politically correct?

It seems to me that people get offended over the simplest of things these days, I'm not sure if its just me or not. Every conversation I've been having lately, I always get called out on offending somebody. I'm always a bigot, an ignorant jerk, or a greedy white man. I don't have a racist bone in my body, nor do I have a sexist or whatever everyone calls it these days.

Call me old fashioned but do we really have time for being politically correct? I see places like Target taking away the boy and girl section because it offends people who are neither a boy or girl. Or is the correct term a trans? I don't even know but I have a feeling somebody is going to correct me here in the comments. I see TV shows getting cancelled because of a certain flag. A TV show that's been on for more than 30 years and just because someone happened to notice a confederate flag (during the whole protest flag thing), the show was cancelled for that reason alone. I see organizations like black lives matter marching and protesting for some very absurd reasons. Dont ALL lives matter? Why can't we all just get along? Why is it my fault of what our ancestors did? Hell, my ancestors even fought for the union, but it's still my fault because apparently I should be checking my white privilege everyday.

Come on people. Don't you all see how silly this all is? How we separate ourselves from one another? I have a feeling it's only going to get worse in the next couple of years. I'm not trying to start anything, just a simple voice of reason for whoever is reading this.

Anyway, I don't want to get on anyone's bad side here but why am I getting called ignorant all the time? I am truly looking for answers here. Am I missing something? I'm almost out of college and I sure as hell don't want to be coming into the world as it is today. We are better than that. And you know something? I'm so sick and tired of being discriminated against just for my opinions. Apparently just because I believe in our constitution and I slightly lean conservative, that means I'm a bigoted racist. You know what's funny? I encourage EVERYONE to voice their opinion because I believe in something called the first amendment, when in fact it's the other side that throws these accusations at me about being racist or sexist like its nothing, telling me to keep my mouth shut because I'm the reason for all of this.

Someone please "help" me. What shall do to become "normal" in this world? Let me hear from the audience.

It's not about "political correctness" or "offending others." It's about "thought control."

It's about going around the First Amendment and "people" trying to CONTROL how other people think.

When it comes to modern day feminists, it's about controlling the discussion and the power to create and impose self-serving social rules between men and women.

The more men "feel ashamed and guilty" for anything they want as men... and of course... for women to "not" feel ashamed or guilty, and additionally feel a sense of pride in identity and entitlement in receiving what they want from men.

While the "government" is bound by the Equal Protection Clause and the First Amendment, "people" are not.

Yet, at the same time, "people" do not actually have the power to "shut you up." Sure, they can "tell you" to "shut up," but they can't actually "shut you up."

All people can do is use "guilt and shame" to "silence" and "chill speech" from their "opposition" (i. e., anyone who disagrees, or calls the social acceptability of their position into question).

Yet, for as long as people stick to objective reason, logic, and realism (i. e., as opposed to self-serving expressivist 'moral' philosophy), there is actually NO BASIS to feel "guilt and shame."

Without those emotionally manipulative tools to attempt to silence the discussion, and with ignoring red herrings and ad hominem attacks attempting to side-track and derail any debate... (i. e., the typical tools of the trade) ... there is actually no basis for anyone to turn around and legitimately tell someone anything remotely resembling:

"Oh my God! I mean, higher power - if you believe in a higher power... that was not 'politically correct.'"

What you say is either "right" or "wrong" as a matter of "objective" fact (i. e., beyond anyone's "opinion"), OR...

What you say is "an opinion," in which case, an "opinion" CANNOT be either "right" or "wrong." There is no such thing as a "right" opinion or "wrong" opinion.

Thus, there is no such thing as "politically correct" (i. e., a "correct" opinion). All that language indicates is an attempt to "funnel" someone's speech, means of expressing ideas, and freedom to "think" about ideas a certain way... in a way that benefits "the critic."

Everyone has the freedom to talk and share their opinion, and if you don't like it - oh well - deal with it.

It's that if you're not part of a certain group, you can't completely understand what is offensive to that group. You may be unknowingly saying racist, sexist, or generally offensive things. It's not that you're trying to offend someone, it's that it comes off that way because that's the way you were raised or that's the way you've always thought and never challenged it. I'll use myself as an example. My family is racist, but when I was little, I didn't think they were. I'm white and I never heard anything else said about black people, so I assumed what the adults around me were saying was true. After I grew up some, I looked back and realized that some of the things I heard and thought were actually offensive. I just didn't know at that time because I had never experienced those offensive comments directed toward me. You probably aren't intending to be offensive, it just comes across that way sometimes.

But taking out the boy and girl sections is target is ridiculous. I understand people might not identify with certain genders but they don't need to throw fits about it. Its nice that we live in a time where people can find groups they fit into, but being offended by two words is beyond me. I'm all for being kind and respectful, but it seems now the SJWs and some trans people are just using it as an excuse to get their way.

Removing the boy and girl toy sections isn't as much about having transgender and genderfluid people, it's about letting kids play with whatever toys they want. A lot of boys want to play with the "girls' toys" and vice versa, but they can't because they're told that toy isn't for their gender. Removing that lets them choose what toys they want to play with based on if they look fun, not their gender. It's not about being offended by the words boy and girl, it's making the toys more for everyone.

In short, yes we are overly politicly correct. It is beneficial to buearacracies and politicians to cater to the people that will vote for them. By telling them there the victims they are insuring that those people will be electing them, it also ensures that those people don't change. Its like indulging some one, they will never grow up but rather remain in a child like state, this is beneficial to people who want power because it prevents critical thinking and ensures they are easily pleased, just tell them its every one elses fault and they will be placated. I don't think politicians/organizations are that nefarious, I just think they know it gets them what they want and beyond that don't care.

The complaint was that they had one section labeled "toys" and one section labeled "girl's toys" which discriminates against girls because it implies that boys are normal or the default and girls are this abnormal thing... which is why they have to give it the extra label.

People have called for the confederate flag to be taken down for decades, and it was only very recently that people decided they'd really had enough of that and wanted it to be taken down for good from public displays. What private companies decided to do with their programming, however, (in the case of the Dukes of Hazard) was completely their own decision.

And countering the whole Black Lives Matter movement by saying All Lives Matter is like condemning a bunch of Relay for Life runners for not caring enough about climate change.

TL;DR: we're not too politically correct, the nation has always been filled with people who get offended by stuff... including people who get offended that people are offended by seemingly too many things. You can say whatever you want in the United States, but you have to live with the consequences of what you say. That's not oppression or people being too sensitive; it's just an extension of the basic idea that you can have freedom of speech, but you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

People who push PCism do so because in reality in they are weak, under confident or just unable to get ahead the right way. They have shortcomings in their own lives and use the "I'm a victim" stance as a cop out. The Virginia shooter i. e. Vester Flanagan was a perfect example of this. The guy had made several past baseless accusations of against former employers citing he was being discriminated against for being a minority and/or gay. The reality is he was lazy and incompetent loser and used the "victim mentality" of being a minority as a cop out. Unfortunately in the last 50 years we have seen an organized rise of losers (feminists, militant minority groups, etc) who rather complain than work hard to get ahead.

I personally look at the world with utilitarian lenses. It should be the best person for the best job that serves the best purpose. Some of the best co-workers, colleagues and former teammates (I used to be a fighter) I've known were sometimes minorities or women. These particular individuals worked hard and never had a "I'm special attitude". The fact they never said "look at me... I'm got ahead and I'm a minority/women... lets celebrate! I'm special" made me respect them all the more. However for the rest of the organized losers out there... they serve no god damn purpose other than being a bunch of whiners and crybabies. I predict that our infrastructure can't support this forever (e. g. affirmative action). At some point things just going to give out.

Agreed we are WAY to PC. What has happened is something that was designed to make people think about others has been corrupted, now if you don't express a "correct" opinion such as say the feminist opinion that all men are evil rapists, PC accuse you of being in the wrong. You are not saying anything against women or anyone else, just saying the truth, the vast majority of men are not rapists, but since that is the "incorrect" opinion the overly PC system holds you at fault.

This can be applied several different ways, I just use feminism as it is so pervasive on this site and the people who run this site.

As for what is to become of the world, stand up to bullies who attack you or anyone else simply because you have an opinion that isn't popular with the overly PC crowd! Stand up for yourself, others and the truth!
