Sweet-Potatoes and Yams: Stop the discrimination

This is more of a public apology if anything. I have done wrong...by yams and sweet potatoes alike.

Much of us are oblivious to the fact that "sweet potatoes" and yams are entirely two different things. This is made more embarrassing that I Include yams/sweet potatoes on nearly every poll, as an option for those who just don't care. On a personal level I feel ashamed of myself for saying they are the same things on GAG that yams and sweet potatoes are equivalent. By @Phoenix98 It was recently brought to my attention that a true yam is a starchy edible root of the Dioscorea genus, and is generally imported to America from the Caribbean. It is rough and scaly and very low in beta carotene. Most people think that long, red-skinned sweet potatoes are yams, but they really are just one of many varieties of sweet potatoes. We maintain this scewed ideaology that yams are in fact sweet potatoes, there we are wrong. We cannot simply toss aside a yams feelings. We must encorporate all feels of rejection and hurt and maintain a steady course to the idealism and thought that Yams are entirely different from sweet potatoes.
