Let's imagine that ones physical appearance is not the first thing that is seen.
Let's pretend that we are bubbles, floating around on planet Earth.
The most dominant personality trait one possesses, would be the first thing that is seen.

This young man's main personality trait is "stubborn",
that word is what fills his bubble.
This young lady's main personality trait is "naive",
that word is what what fills her bubble.
The other man's main personality trait is,
"ambitious",
that word is what fills his bubble.

Billions of bubbles with ones personal characteristic's,
float around to their desired destination.
Although these bubbles are off to different settings and environments,
they make contact with each other through aspects of their daily life.
Some of these bubbles are extremely disgusted by the traits they see others have.
While others find themselves intriguted and take notice of each other.
"Wow, that bubble is affectionate", I want to get to know her more a young man says.
"Hubba! Hubba! I think my heart stopped that bubble is a good listener", a young lady says.

There is no doubt that some of these bubbles are more fortunate than others,
in the traits that are visually seen by others.
The sad thing is, all isn't what meets the eye because there are a lot of other qualities
good and bad these bubbles possess.
But other bubbles only seem to take notice of what is seen at first glance.
This paints an inaccurate picture of what is actually being seen.
Just because someone looks desirable does not mean they have traits that truly are.
We need to know the depths of something in order to know its quality.
Some bubbles have a advantage due to this, while others are deemed less fortunate because
first impressions are lasting ones.

Some people say they would like to stop being judged by their appearance in everyday life,
to them I say, "that is impossible".
No matter what form we take on,
whether that be an enormous bubble where our main personality trait is exposed,
or whether we have the existence as a human being that can be touched in flesh,
it is any living creatures instinctual factor to judge by what is seen.
We simply cannot change that.
We can only come to terms with it, and make the best of who we are.
We cannot let our exterior which may not be an accurate description of who we are internally; define us.
Instead, we must look to the world and show them that we are beyond what our physical representation says us to be.

It won't be easy.
It will be hard.

Body love is more than acceptance of self or the acceptance of the body. Body love is about self-worth in general. It's more than our physical appearance.

We are creatures fascinated by novelty. Anytime we encounter something new, we immediately process it as fast as possible. The more novelty we surround ourselves with, the less depth we are literally able to apply in our categorizing, labeling, sorting, and ultimate discarding of information.

When was the last time you actually sat down and learned something deep about another? Is that because you can't, or because you choose not to? You have dozens of opportunities every day to get more depth out of people, but it's usually more comfortable to just skim the surface.

But once you start digging into people, you'll find that several start to clam-up and become uncomfortable. Because the problem with living a life of skimming the surface is that you tend to meet others at the same depth. People don't know how to handle you digging into them because they've never explored their own depths.

Sit down with me for a spell and you'll tell me things you've never told anyone before. Not because I asked, but because the water is deep enough to finally swim.

Sexual attraction is necessary for a fulfilling romantic relationship. I refuse to be shamed into a relationship without it... Or more likely, a relationship where he feels it and I don't.

Outside of that, getting to know people absolutely without regard for appearance makes sense.

I dunno. For men, I thought that personality plays a lot too. In my mind it's not just looks that get a girl (like physical appearance is important but there are other personality traits), so women try look for that description anyway. So it leads me to those good personality traits that if even reflected through a bubble, still won't make a difference. If his bubble said "kind", it will be trumped by the bubble of "adventurous". Basically what makes men hot (apparently) is their personality and demeanour, which women look for.

I kind of get the sentiment though I'm not really sure what the point is of this take. The truth is that physical appearances are ALWAYS going to play a role since humans--particularly males--are sexual creatures by nature and thus visual oriented. That's not to say that we have to allow it to dominate our better judgment and base everything solely around it, but looks are always going to play a part and it would be very cruel to force someone into being with someone they are not physically attracted to. Sure all humans age, and even if I were to marry someone like Heidi Klum, she would still age in the long run and lose her beauty. But so would I, and that doesn't mean that we still wouldn't get to have our fun while we were young.

People always ask, why do I have to be judged by my looks and not my personality? So, I use an analogy to show that there will always be judgment no matter what form one takes on.

Hmm.. The Internet. Also probably 4chan. Also some MMO. You don't get judged by your own appearance and you can change it however you want. Still, it's not that great of a world isn't it?

Appearance is critical in relationships. You use appearance to separate one another. You are bound to be attracted to different appearance just like clothes or decorations. However, what people are generally attracted to is determined by genetics, social relations and personal preference. 2 out of 3 have a certain direction like fit vs not fit, beautiful vs ugly.. etc.

Are you familiar with the Rolling Stones? They used to have a guy in their band named Brian Jones, and in the 60s, when the Stones became big, all the girls went crazy for Brian Jones, above the other ones. Why? He was the one with the cute blond hair. Jones didn't have anywhere near the charisma or stage presence of Mick Jagger, or even Keith Richard. He wrote very few of their songs, and towards the end of his life, he was a one messed up druggie. Jagger and Richard did most of the heavy lifting. Yet the girls still went nuts over him, just because of a feature he happened to have.

It's not possible for human beings to stop judging things based on sight. Our eyes have the most dedication in the brain and the most nerves. It's the sense we rely on the most, not just based on society, but based on neurology.
We will always judge things with our eyes because it's how our species has evolved.

However: have you ever asked yourself "why" it's wrong to judge based on looks? If it wasn't for society telling us that it's immoral could you come up with a logical reason for why judging someone based on their looks is wrong or harmful?

Humanity is petty narcissistic and suicidal we spend more time trying to figure new ways to kill ourselves than we do trying to find ways to live peacefully because deep down we know that we don't deserve intelligence because all we've done with it is fuck up the planet and every other living thing in it just to prove were more civilized than them. This is a beautiful thought, but it would only work if everyone went blind.

We have a lot of those going around I think. Socialism in theory is great, so is everyone being equal. Could go on about these things. Unfortunately they simply do not work in reality, but people try to cling onto and push them nonetheless.

eh it is scientific nature that we judge to find a suitable mate. sadly aesthetics play a big role in that. it is finding another person who would make a healthy baby or can provide for a offspring. but this is just the basics. we can see the true colors of a person after talking with them.

I see your point but that would be depriving us all of the full sensory experience of finding a mate and all of those extras which go with it. I like personality traits in someone but I've met someone who "looked good on paper" who was all wrong for me in every other way. There are so many dimensions for love to be so limited.

Not a chance. Take clothing for example. People buy and wear certain types of clothing they like in order to fit in to certain groups, and get others to perceive and judge them a certain way. The way people style their hair. The way people exercise and take care of their bodies. Et Cetra. All these features are things you will be judged for.

Physical appearance carries vast amounts of about who we are. It's not simply that the way we dress and groom indicates many of our values and interests. The way we stand, or walk, or glance about is constantly broadcasting our state of mind to those around us. In any kind of physical interaction, body language contributes more to communicating than the words you speak.

no. there are plenty of reasons to judge people. i mean if i see someone in a wheelchair, i'm gonna assume that he/she can't run the 100m dash like usain bolt. if i see a jacked dude, i'm gonna judge him because most people just don't look like that naturally and assume he can kick my ass. it's not the only thing, but it has multiple functions based on prior experiences of the person.

It's just how the world is. I have cerebral palsy and it freaks romantic partners out that they'd have to like take care of me my whole life and it's no where near that bad, but people fear the unknown or stuff they don't understand

Good thing is that personality actual affects looks. A hot guy/girl with a mean mindset and personality will rub people wrong, than a "normal" happy personality person.
