Stop hating on Valentines day!

Some people seem to think valentines day is a waste of time and money... (This usually comes from the minds of single people) but I don't understand their thinking. Taking one day out of the year to show how much you love your partner through gifts and flowers is truly beautiful.

I always hear people saying if you want a gift from your partner on valentines day your "spoilt". I find that crazy, I am not spoilt one bit! Though I know my man loves me every day. When valentines day comes around and he gives me flowers when he usually dosent it (because let's be honest, getting flowers on a regular basis would be stupid), shows me he still cares and wants to take the time to do something special for me.

Of course I buy him a gift aswell, It shouldn't just be the man giving the girl a gift, but people need to realize that everyones like to recieve love in different ways.. Some people like gifts, some people like affection, some like quality time and some like all three. If more people in this world would stop getting so butt hurt when others talk about valentines day and how much they like it, then maybe we could all learn to understand eachother, and for a moment stop all the hate. When I see girls online who receive expensive watches and rings on valentines day, I don't hate on them.. I am genuinely happy that they were given something nice from their S/O whether I celebrate the day or not! Seeing someone else happy it a great feeling.

For the people who don't agree with valentines day. You don't have to be rude and ruin it for the people who do. For example: I'm hoping my boyfriend gives me something for valentines day and I express that desire. Why do you have to be mean and rude and call the girl/guy needy or materialistic!! it's just rude and makes you sound bitter and disrespectful and most of all JEALOUS!

People spend money for their loved ones on Christmas and on their birthday, does that mean everyone in their family is spoilt? No! It means they want to express their love to them in a different way. The world if full of constant hate and anger. Why not spend one day loving one another. Valentines day doesn't have to be for your partner, it can be ways to show your mom, dad, grandparents, or whoever, how much you care.

I don't necessary celebrate that day with my boyfriend. Though, he does bring a little present. Not an expensive one of course but flowers or last year (he works at a pizzeria), he gave me a heart shaped nutella pizza and I was more than happy about it.
I would be happy to do it of course, we just don't wait for that day to give each other present or to go out. We do it whenever we want.

My brother always celebrate that day, he bring his girlfriend to the restaurant and make it a beautiful day for her. I think it's very nice and totally respect the fact that they do it. She didn't ask for it, he just love her and wanted to show her on that day. Why people need to make such a problem about it is beyond me.

My parents have been married for more than 25 years, they express their love every day, and dislike Valentines cause it's not about love but about money.
I don't dislike Valentines day, it's a great way for companies to earn money. But I'm against of people who use that day to show love when they don't do it the rest of the year.

I don't hate Valentines Day nor do I get upset at anybody that celebrates it, but it's the phrase "the ONE day of the year you get to show the person you love, how much you love them". That's what I take issue with because it makes you wonder about the other 364 days the year, why pick just one?

I also take issue with people thinking buying gifts is love. I'm not anti card or anti gift by any means, it's people thinking that somehow getting someone a gift proves that they without a doubt love them completely. When really it was just a nice gesture on a day of romance. It's all the other days of the year that count the most and prove that the love is real, not a box of chocolates on one day of the week.

It's not only single people that don't get the concept of the day, it's couples too. My dad told my mom when they met, that Valentines Day is no big deal it's just one day of the year and you should show you love someone all the days of the year not just one. So, they've never really celebrated Valentines day. They got each other cards and stuff but it's never been a big deal to them. I know you said flowers all the time is stupid, but my dad always use to send flowers to my moms work place for no other reason than just because, he didn't need a reason. My parents have supported and been by each others side through so many things in life, that Valentines Day seems insignificant in comparsion to all of that.

I get that but that's what businesses and other such places, tell you it's about and many people follow that theory. If people cared about these other ways of showing love, they wouldn't just reserve it for Valentines Day. They would show it all year long, in the right way but many people buy into the "one day of the year" nonsense, gifts is apart of that.

So, I don't think people hate Valentines Day. I think they don't like the way people make it out to be or the message they send out, about what it's all about. You know?

I think you kind of don't get why most people who hate V-day do so. It's, like other people said, being reminded other people have someone and we don't every fucking year, and having to see those couples act all goofy in front of our face. Nobody really cares what you get, either. It's more so that it's silly to think something is okay about there being one day of the year when we say, "Okay, go buy your loved ones candy, flowers and jewelry" as opposed to encouraging people to do that as often as they feel like it and multiple times a year, not just once. The point that V-day is really just commercial and another way for businesses to take advantage of our wallets goes over a lot of people's head. Shit, they JUST had Christmas.

Personally, I never say any of this to anyone, so I'm not ruining anyone's day. But those same people who don't want us to ruin their day aren't thinking about how single people feel when they are showing off gifts, kissing, hugging and all of that crap for about a week in February. You might not have hate V-day when you were single, but a lot of singles do.

If you want to view it as a day he cares for you, then that's fine... whatever, but just because a guy doesn't on that specific day that you expect it, it does not mean that he doesn't care about you to take the time to do something special for you.

My hate for valentines day falls under the fact that it's a fabricated holiday that is there to make money. If you want to enjoy valentines day and celebrate it, then feel free to do so, but just because someone hates on something that you enjoy it doesn't mean they are jealous or single or anything else that you touched. It is probably very likely that it's because many, like myself included, don't find it to be romantic in the slightest. I just can't comprehend how treating my girl special on a day she is expecting it is romantic. To me, it would be romantic if I set up a date, flowers, chocolate, or whatever she likes and made a nice romantic night on August 4th, (random date). You know when she least expects it. And then do it again next year on another date. maybe do it 1 time one year, 3 times the next and 2 times the 3rd year to keep them on their toes. That way they don't think.. okay, I had the one romantic night.. gotta wait a whole year or so before the next one.

while neither my guy or i particularly care for v-day, i see it as we should be celebrating love every day.

v-day is a hallmark holiday, it's too close to my birthday, and i was dumped on it once as a teenager. but the main reason i'm not a fan is because so many people use feb. 14th as an excuse to shower their bf/gfs with affection and gifts... after ignoring or mistreating them for the other 364 days of the year.

There's no need to hate. Because hate doesn't really sell. I for one think, man if only I have a store or something that sells all this shit that people buy and give each other even for that single day to earn some extra money (for emergencies or anything I actually really Need later) then that's all that matters. Win-win situation for me and them.

It's really just another make money opportunity and nothing more, so you're right don't bother hating but look on the bright side and try and find something useful that you can take advantage of out of the situation such as this commercialized holiday.

Romance is dead in the 21st century. I am a new age romantic, and I think it's very sad that not only the guys, but even the girls (who were traditionally the "romantic gender") have turned against love. It was once considered an honorable trait to publicly show your love and watch sappy movies and listen to love songs etc.
Now in this cynical world we live in, there is almost no love anymore. Guys are increasingly encouraged to be "manly" and brooding rather than accept emotions, and even girls are aren't as romantic as they used to be. And the worst part? We've accepted it. "Love is so overrated" everyone says, and no one stands up to them. Paul McCartney once wrote a song called "A World Without Love", well, we are very close to living in that world now. Unless things change, unless we bring a little romance back into this depressing reality, that is the world we will live and die in.

Yeah but there's a hell of a lot more to Christmas than just giving gifts so it's not even really about the gifts? At least past age 10 or something. It's also about the food, the spirit, decorations, the music, being with your family and taking a break from school and work. V-day is literally just "buy your partner a gift and a dinner and that's that". I'm not denying that Christmas also has become somewhat about consumerism but there's still a lot more to it than that. But with v-day all this unnecessary bullshit gets shoved down your throat "in the name of love" and that's just sad.

Sorry, I dispised valentines day when I was married as much as I hate that piece of garbage day single. It is a made up bullshit woman's holiday. While you can't say no straight men like it, I am sure there are some with gay tendencies that do. The overwhelming bulk of straight men don't give a shit about valentines day. I don't need a calendar to tell me to treat my woman like a princess and show her I love her. The fact that they raise prices on things like flowers as much as 10 x over the week before and the week after shows what a bunch of bullshit it is.
I have had some personal reasons to hate it also but those are besides the point. Only women buy into it because they get the gifts, men don't. and any man that needs a gift (or woman for that matter) is a gold digging waste of life.

I don't hate it. It's just not a very special day to me or my partner. We'll probably spend it together and I'll probably bake him his favorite cake, but it's not all that different from other days. Of course we could plan our ski weekend one week later so it'd fall on Valentine's Day to make it more special, but I don't think it'll make me remember that ski weekend more fondly.

Valentine's Day is not only for couples. It's just more popular among couples because of what it is associated with. But I love Valentine's Day. I always did since I was a child. Only one time did I hate Valentine's Day, and that was freshman year of high school because I saw everyone cuddling up to someone else and it made me feel sadly single lol. But I had 4 wonderful Valentine's Days with someone who truly loved me and visa versa, we recently broke up and I still had a wonderful Valentine's Day because I spent it with the other people that I loved. So at the end of the day, I'm going to have many many more opportunities to do something different for Valentine's Day.

I think the hate for Valentine's day comes mostly from the fact that it's a completely fabricated holiday that was created for the sole purpose of getting people to buy stuff and the business model feeds on guilt and insecurity. Not to mention how shitty it makes people feel.

When I'm not single, I like having holiday that's specifically about doing something nice for the one I love (even though we do that ask year anyway).

1. I think some guys break up before holidays so that they won't need to spend money on a gift, or maybe they don't want their partner spending money on them because then they'll feel guilty when they break up on December 26.

2. Having said that, I would not judge what the rest of the world does by the trend among people who pot their status on Facebook. That is the "wear-their-hearts-on-their-sleeves" crowd and it does not necessarily reflect how the rest of us behave.
