In America Valentines day has traditions that are always followed here we are gonna look at 5 different countries that celebrate this day differently than they do in America.


1. Valentines Day in Japan

In Japan Valentines day is celebrated in 2 different months one on February 14th and one on March 14th called White day. In Japan its actually the women who give chocolates to men which are either homemade or bought. There are two different kinds of chocolates that are given Giri-choco which is non romantic they are given to friends, colleagues, close male friends, and bosses. The other kind is Honmei-choco which is given to a boyfriend, husband, or someone you truly love. The other kind of Valentines day is called "White Day" one month after Valentines day celebrated on March 14th. This is when the men return the favor usually the men giving them white chocolates and having to give the women a better gift than what they gave them. Deparment stores have many advanced reminders with gift displays so men will have no excuse to forget about this day.


2. Valentines Day in Brazil

Also called Dia dos Namorados is actually celebrated on June 12th which is in saint Anthony's Day Eve who was recognized for blessing young couples with happy and prosperous marriages. During this day couples exchange gifts such as chocolates and flowers. Beautifying home decorations, decorating the streets, having parades and carnivals are also common. Single women prefer a ritual called "simpatias" concealing a love letter in a pot of basil to pass to a prospective suitor. However Valentines day on this day is also celebrated with festivials and parties with friends and family members.


3. Valentines Day in Finland (ystävänpäivä)

Although this holiday is celebrated in the same day Valentines day in America the Finnish people celebrate this day differently. Ystävänpäivä which translates into "Friends Day" instead of couples giving gifts to each other during this day you give friends gifts, post cards, and cards to symbolize their frienship.


4. Valentines Day in Wales

Also known as "Dydd Santes Dwynwen" is celebrated during th 25th day of January. A Welsh love spoon is typically given as a gift. Another common gift that couples give each other Jewelry engraved with love poetry. Some may even go and take their sweethearts to the beach close to the ruins of Dwynwen's church to pop the question.


5. Valentines Day in South Korea


Top 5 countries that celebrate Valentines Day differently


Much like in Japan South Korea has a Valentines day and White Day as well where on February 14th women give chocolate to men. Except In March 14th men give women non chocolate as opposed to giving them chcolate and a better gift like in Japan. And unlike in Japan South Korea also has a day called Black Day celebrated on April 14th which is for those who did not receive anything on February 14th or March 14th go to a Chinese-Korean restaurant to eat black noodles and lament their single life.
