Beauty Contests Are Just Chock Full of B.S.

There was a question on here I answered and honestly, it angered me.Here is the question, and for you lazy ones, I'll post his guidelines/rules:

"If the Admin allows it he should give the winner a $100 Amazon gift card + a gag queen T shirt. Your pic will be framed on the right side of this site until the next competition. Rules are that you must have been a member of this site for some time, not a troll and must be a loyal member. (Mods and female admins are allowed)"

Women will judged based on these things below. (Gag Queen needs)

1. Weight
2. Hair health
3. Hair style
4. Clothing style
5. Voice speeches (You can record your voice giving a mini speech on why you should be Gag queen)
6. Talent (Can post videos)
7. Makeup (Shit makeup will be called out)
8. What makes you special
9. You views on the the world
10. How would you make the world a better place

And honestly, I've always found beauty contests to be quite subjective, artificial and boring. I'm not gonna write a spiel about how it's "demeaning" or "degrading" to women and all that bullshit.

BUT here is the opinion I gave:

Do you have ANY idea how many women's self esteem would just DROP?

Do you have any idea how terrible of an idea that is?

The woman who wins will feel bad because so many other women lost. The women who lose will feel as if they're not good enough, they'll say "Whats wrong with me?" "Why didn't I win?"All the self doubt they already have will intensify by 100%. Any one who doesn't have any self esteem will become 100% worse than it already is.

Besides, that's a lot of money for a simple "beauty contest" an a website that is about QUESTIONS AND OPINIONS.

89 people might think one girl is GORGEOUS but 90 might think she's just MEH. The ruling will be so subjective it'll be nothing but unfair.

And then if the mods/admins chose? It'll be even worse because then the GAG community wouldn't have had a say- they'll bitch and moan about that. And the women who didn't win will think they SHOULD have.

If this ever happens, I wouldn't want to stay on GAG anymore. At all.

It'll have gone from a fun and helpful website to a site full of superficiality I wish not to associate with.

I understand not all contests will be fair, and that the women who participate are doing so willingly, but that doesn't mean anything.

This is a website about questions and opinions. I understand (even though they're annoying mostly), "How do I look?" and "Do I look okay?" etc. That's different.

Not only did he say a QUEEN, he didn't mention anything about a KING one.

Beauty contests in general are very subjective and generally unfair.

P.s. I don't care if you hate on me for this. Be nice and respectful, even if you disagree. If not, I'll block and report you. I'm not in the mood to argue with people who don't want to listen.

Life is replete with competitions and implicit winners and losers. You apply for a job along with 10 other candidates; one gets the job and the other 10 are losers. That part of the competition does not bother me.

Beauty competitions are inane. I don't need some panel of judges to tell me which girl is the prettiest. At most levels of competition, they are all pretty. But is is a tradition in many areas. There is an area near my home which grows potatoes. They have a potato festival every year and crown Miss Spud. Another area about 100 miles away names Miss Watermelon. Yes, it is banal to me, but some girl's primary asset is there beauty and, to them, it is important.

You may be an intellect and think that a debate competition is the cat's pajamas while the blonde bimbos thin it is silly. Most boys don't play football but some do. Most of those will never earn a living by playing the game and there is a risk of injury, but we allow them to play because it is important to them.

There is another perspective on these beauty pageants.

However, for G@G to have a beauty pageant. . . what a dumb idea! :)

I know this girl who is currently participating in the Miss Insert My State pageant. She's so sweet, honestly, she has one of the kindest souls I've ever met, and she's absolutely beautiful, I mean, model beautiful, long thick black hair, big bright brown eyes, a wide smile, she's tall, and there's not a mean or vain bone in her body. People like her, I would never want her to feel insecure because of the pageant life, and so far as I know, it hasn't gotten to her much.

I think pageants can bring out the worst in people, and do pit girls against each other based on looks and economic status (more bling is more money) So, I would really never let my daughter participate but it shouldn't be outlawed or anything. It's a personal choice. I certainly hope young girls get the love and encouragement they deserve (like this girl's family is also tight with a capital t) and I hope everyone knows that they're beautiful and comparing to the next girl is silly because there is always someone more beautiful and the it girl, always.

Beauty contests goals are not only beauty. When u people see beauty pageants live on TV or YouTube, u just see a small part of the show. There are more selection rounds other than the talent round, swimsuit, evening gown or question answer round. We have the sports round, question and answer without makeup round and no makeup modeling round.
There is a round called the BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE round. This round manifesto says that - Beauty without a praising personality or without the urge to help the unfortunate women is useless. So in this round we have to build up organizations or campaigns to help the women from various issues such as rape and domestic violence.
International Cooperation is very important in the the world like today's. This was the first aim when beauty pageants were organized. When u enter a beauty pageant, u make new friends from all around the world. Some become ur true friends, but if u become successful in the beauty pageant, few become ur enemies. Life has many contests instored, let it be in schools, colleges, job interview. Same is the case in beauty contests. One wins, many lose. It is human nature to be jealous of the one who is successful.
Is someone wins the beauty pageant, it doesn't mean that her hardwork has paid the price and now she can just enjoy. U have to help the underprivileged women in ur country or in the world.

So, to sum up my opinion, to enter into the life of pageantry is a tough decision and the women who are brave enough to take that decision are called the WINNERS, not only the woman who wins the contest.

All that glitters are not gold.
Whatever we see from the outside is never the same from inside. Same is the case with pageantry. So in my opinion, I explained the background of beauty contests.
I know that different people have different opinions and I respect those opinions. But just thought to give a clear glass view of pageantry. Some might consider it and some might not. But whatever happens, happens for good.😊

Anyway two distinctions. Yes I agree there shouldn't be GAG beauty contest.

However I see nothing wrong with other beauty contests like Ms. World. We're guardians of our own self esteam. It doesn't matter who won or lost, they had characteristics and beauty to enetr and compete in that contest, they were well aware majority will lose, rather actually there is only one winner.

Milions of women themselves actually watch beauty contests. What's next Victoria's Secret Fashoin Show. Same thing with ads, oh that ad is making me feel bad ban it. Their problem, beauty contests, fashion shows, ads whatever. They can do whatever they want to, if it makes anyone feels bad well tough. Its our problem we should deal with it. Ultimately only we can find a way to be happy with ourselves regardless of issue.

Winning and losing is a part of life and if some women cannot handle that, then they better toughen up and that is that. The real world has no safe-spaces and for every winner there are losers.

HOWEVER,

I do agree that unless it is judged in a purely democratic manner where EVERY user votes for the queen, it will cause a lot of tension and hostility on this site. It will essentially just become a game of politics where the editors decide who wins, which is precisely why I've refused to apply as one despite having more featured and promoted Takes than most of them combined.

It's true that the competition and winning/losing is just a part of life, but in this case, it's different.

With the beauty pageants, there is far more gained than lost - companies sponsor contestants, money is flying around absolutely everywhere, so many specialists are employed because it's just so damn huge, TV companies make mad cash, etc etc. Real world beauty pageants are a business - forget 'beauty', because '$$$' is really what it's for.

So the reason that I think a beauty contest is a really WTF idea on GAG is that like... Who the hell profits, right? One person's feelings at the expense of a hundred others (at least)? Net amount of negative emotions >>> net amount of positive emotions in this case. After the ordeal, there'll be so many posts hating on the winner, those who voted for the winner, the admin who suggested it, confusing the contestants who didn't win... Negativity++.

Not to be rude, but am I the only female who DOESN'T have a mental breakdown if another chick is considered prettier than me? It's not that serious & never will be. Honestly, it's getting to the point where other people can't do normal things like compliment someone without feeding someone else's "insecurities." Do we really have to stop doing the things we want because someone might feel insecure? I was always told that life is tough and is never fair & if you choose to hold your head down all the time, that's your own problem. No one should have to baby you.

I do watch beauty pageants occasionally. I don't have any real problem with them. The contestants know what they're getting themselves into. & the question the guy asked... he came off as a bit of a weirdo but it's not that serious.

actually i agree. my family sometimes used to watch beauty pageants on tv when i was a kid. i admit i enjoyed all the booties but even then i kinda felt bad for all the girls. i kinda guessed it would really hurt if they didn't win, as girls value their looks a lot, plus it takes a lit of confidence to do what they do and failure can often affect self esteem very negatively. im totally against this whole thing. might as well call it superficiality pageant. why do they even try to judge for personality. its as if they wanna hide that its just shallow as fuck.
anyway, that being said, why would you quit? you can just choose not to participate.

TBH, I think it'd be a good idea. So long as A), no-one takes it too seriously, and B), they have a GaG King contest as well. I'd go so far as to argue that the latter would actually be a more popular idea; most of the guys would say that the potential merits of being rated highly in such a competition would far outweigh the blow to their self-esteem if they lost and got rated poorly. So why not? If they had a GaG King contest, I'd certainly sign up, especially with a prize on offer. If I lost, and even if I got heckled and caned by dozens of people telling me I'm the ugliest guy in the world, who cares? i'd just shrug, say 'screw them', and get over it in a heartbeat.

I am reminded of the Toddlers and Tiaras show, as well as the Here comes Honey Boo Boo show. I watched neither yet was bombarded by commercials for them. Totally stupid shows shoving young girls into "beauty" contests. At those ages? Totally inane. Yet some people love that shit. And the fat little Honey Boo Boo still assaults our senses on TV. But I have to admit that she is far less objectionable that he mama!

I don't see how there is any merit in having a contest where one can't compete if they were born leas appealing. Sports competitions make sense since they ahowcase abilities and merit. Beauty contests are the most pointless and discriminaing ever. What of the ugly girls?

The last time I recall even noticing a Miss America contest was in the 90s. I remember my friend came from his home in Nor Cal to visit us. We had gathered at my friends place. US guys played Squad Leader in the dining room. The girls went to watch TV in the living room. I popped in the living room during the break and the girls were all watching the Miss America contest. And they were watching it AVIDLY. I also noticed all the commercials were for things marketed to women.

To be honest, I don't think much of beauty contests. I just saw it as fake entertainment like reality TV plus a bit of role model aspect. It's just entertaining but doesn't mean much. Even as a kid and teen, they never bothered me at all.

Only one candidate can get the job 500 people applied for
Only one athlete wins a marathon
Only one gold medal is awarded per event at the Olympics
