What is a Real Man?

Jarett
When you think of a real man from television, who comes to mind? Or what about in the movies, any manly men stand out? When I think of television and think of real men, two faces immediately come to mind: Jack Bauer of 24, and Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is really famous throughout the US. Ask someone what tv show he plays on, and I'm sure most people don't know. But ask what he does, and the answer you'd probably get is, "He beats up bad guys." When you talk about Jack Bauer on 24, he basically saves the world. What about in movies? I think of two movies right off the bat with manly men. Maximus from Gladiator, and William Wallace from Braveheart are both real men in the purest sense. So why do these faces and names come to mind when we think of real men? And why when we watch these movies or tv shows do we imagine ourselves as these men? What is it about them that strikes a cord in the very soul of every guy?

What is it about these guys that make them real men? The first thing that makes them real men, is that they're tough. With all of these guys, one characteristic that is clearly displayed is that from the inside out they are rough, tough, and not afraid to prove it. If they are afraid, they don't show it. They are willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish their mission. What do these real man stand for? They stand for what is right. They fight for women, fight against evil, fight for what is right. The method that they use might not always be right, but what they fight for is. They are not out for glory or for fame, they are out to destroy whatever evil is causing harm. They are real men that people will get behind, and that other men want to be.

In a way, these guys seem like the modern day knights. Knights followed an unwritten code called CHIVALRY. Chivalry simply means in its primitive sense; "service on horseback." The knight swore to be champion of the Right and the Good against injustice and evil, to speak the truth, to protect the distressed, to practice courtesy, to be loyal, to be courageous, and to vindicate honor. This was a high standard and was a crucial component of any man who was a knight. Chivalry is the true definition of being a knight. And I think the word chivalry has lost its meaning. You might have heard the phrase, "chivalry is dead." But I disagree. I think chivalry is sleeping, waiting to be captured by real men who will swear to follow that same code. The word might be outdated, but the principles certainly aren't. And you see those same characteristics in the real men above.

The men above fight for what is right, no matter what the odds are. They know that their word is their bond. They don't care how dangerous or difficult things are, as long as they are alive, they will continue in their quest. They never waver in their fight against wickedness. And THAT is what what a REAL MAN is!

A real man knows how to treat women. They are romantic and charming. They are honest, loyal and trustworthy. They might make mistakes, but they learn from their mistakes. They are quick to forgive and slow to anger. They might get scared sometimes, but they don't let the fear kill them. They use the fear as a driving force to do what needs to be done. They aren't out for glory, they don't compromise, and they don't take advantage of people. A real man doesn't steal or cheat. They treat all people with respect. A real man marries for life. And above all, they stand up for weak, and they stand up for what is right.
