Why Trans Activism is Actually Perpetuating Gender Roles in Our Society

I need to start this off by stating that I fully support people to be free to make their own choices and live the happiest possible life. Whether that means changing your sex or wearing clothes/using pronouns that don't match your biological sex, I'm 100% on board with your right to decide for yourself and be respected and accepted.

That being said, we really need to talk about the new gender theories & how, in my opinion, they perpetuate the coined gender roles that already exist in our society.

Why Trans Activism is Actually Perpetuating Gender Roles in Our Society

We've all heard about gender roles before -- men are strong, brave, meant to provide and keep their families safe. Women are fragile, submissive, meant to take care of the home and raise the kids. All that is subtly (or not) fed to us our whole lives, from the very moment we leave the womb (blue blankets if you have a penis, pink if you don't) to the moment our lifeless bodies are buried (suit if you have a penis, dress if you don't).

Gender roles put us under pressure and shape us into 2 categories of human. We must fit whichever was assigned to us by our genitals, or else we are ridiculed and excluded. But the thing is: genders don't really exist. Only biological sex does. Everything else is a social construct that needs to be abolished.

The only thing that separates men from women is biology -- genitals and some hormones, and that's about it. Everything else was coined by mankind and is now a tool to oppress every single one of us.

It just doesn't make sense to me that someone would 'feel' like a different gender. For example: someone who was born a male and identifies as a woman. How can you say you're a woman if every woman is a different human being with only one characteristic in common (biological sex)? If we exclude EVERY gender role, the definition of woman is a human being with a vagina. Being a woman is NOT being feminine, sensitive and wearing skirts; all of these 'womanly characteristics' are oppressive gender roles that have been enforced on humans with a vagina for centuries. So how can you 'feel' like a woman if your only perspective on women are the oppressive gender roles we've been trying to get rid of for decades?

When you base yourself off of gender roles to decide whether you belong to a group or not, instead of fighting these roles, you're actually making sure they never go away. If liking makeup, long hair and dresses makes you feel like you're a woman, you're just telling men all over again that they can't like makeup, long hair and dresses, because they're men. It's a cycle and it's toxic.

(Same goes for people who were born female and identify as a man. I simply gave the example I am more fit to talk about because I was born a female and identify as a woman.)

What I mean is, your perception of the other gender is purely based on gender roles and is therefore oppressive and segregational. If we all stopped and really thought about it, there would be over 7 billion different genders in this planet, because we are all different people with different feelings and different thoughts.

I'm not attacking trans people, as I said I will always defend your right to choose whatever you want to be, but instead of fighting for the right to be of a different gender, we should all be fighting to abolish gender altogether. If a guy wants to wear skirts, let him. He doesn't need a label and he doesn't need to change his gender for that. If a girl wants to wear binders, let her. She doesn't need to 'identify' as male to wear loosely fit clothes and a short haircut.
