Valentine's Day. Is it just for lovers? Or can it be used to show your appreciation for everyone you love?

Try Valentine's Day DIFFERENTLY this year!

I mean, Valentine's Day, in theory, is a day used for one to show their love for somebody they care for deeply. Now, one can say that they care deeply for their mother or father or sister or their friends, so on and so on. So why is that Valentine's Day is treated as a day for people in relationships?

Many people are against Valentine's Day! My parents are against it. They believe that it is just another holiday that companies (namely flower shops, card manufactorers and chocolate companies) use to make more money. And they do. I'm not saying that such companies shouldn't use it to their advantage, because I think they should-it's how you run a successful business. However, Valentine's Day today is more about materialistic things now (or making money), rather than showing ones love for another.

Perhaps if people celebrated Valentine's Day to show their love to all the people that mean something to them, then more people would participate in it, and consequently, less people would be against it. For example, so many people celebrate Christmas Day, and not because they're Christians, but because it is a day where we can spend it with our family. It is a break from the usual busyness of our day-to-day lives.

The point that I am trying to stress here is that I want you to think about Valentine's Day a little bit more differently this year! Instead of complaining about how single you are (or being absorbed in your relationship) go up to all the people that you love (note: not in love with, but love) and let them know that you love them! Sometimes, if not told, people don't know that you love them! Not everyone can read between the lines.

I hope you all have a happy and loving Valentine's Day! xx
