I think so, I used to be like that in junior high. Good times lol.
I would consider someone popular if they know a lot of people, and if most of those people like them. I think that's the best way to be.
Then there are the "popular" people that know a lot of people and are really outgoing, but they're also usually not well-liked, especially not by the people they pushed aside to get attention.
Either way, it's pretty awesome to be able to be yourself and have people love you for that.
I was really quiet in high school, but everyone knew who I was and I got along with everyone. I think being quiet kind of made people notice me, and then they realized that there was more to me than just being the quiet girl. People always told me that they liked that I wasn't into the drama that a lot of other people were into. So, I definitely think it's possible.
I wasn't the most outgoing person in high school but I wasn't all that quiet in my classes. I think I was best known for being intelligent, so in this instance, it is definitely possible because everyone knew me for being smart : ) ...was still introverted, but known nonetheless.
Like my daddy always said, "It's better to keep your mouth shut, and let people wonder if ya might be an idiot, than to open it and relieve all doubt". If your quiet, but give off a friendly, caring, and approachable vibe, people will like you just fine. Even if under the surface you're shy and not self-assured (not to imply you're either of these things), if you can let your good qualities show through, you can''t lose. Over time you'll loosen up.

As you get older, you'll notice that the more someone talks, the more attention and validation they need.

Depends on what kind of popular you want. Being very shy and quiet you may rarely be the center of attention, but you can easily be very well liked by many people, thus popular. It is not always how much you say but WHAT you say that is important.

I guess it is possible, just not very likely. Most of the popular people in my high school were really outgoing.
I knew a few, yes. They were usually intelligent.
