Why do people think this about us?
Why do people think Indian's have bad hygiene?
Why do people think this about us?
Honestly I wouldn't be offended by it, it's just a stereotype as you say so why be offended by it? Most people who believe stereotypes about other nations tend to not believe the ones about their own nation so it just shows how much of a hypocrite they are
I haven't met many Indians but the ones I have met didn't smell bad
I think it stems from the spicey food that Indians (and others) consume. It has nothing to do with hygiene, but simply the emergence of the spices through the pores of the skin.
I do not mean to cause any offence by this. I'm just trying to come up with a reason for it. I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong.
I should add that I love Indian and other Asian foods. From central Asia right through to China.
Thanks for MHG!
I have heard this too but i think it has more to do with their spices they use for cooking i have heard someone say an indian had the worst BO and smelled of garlic, not sure why people say these things, but strong foods can seep through the pores of skin but still it's not right to stereotype people like that.
i'm sure they say that because your food is very flavorful and leaves a smell on you. i know a couple european tourists who smell really odd to me (like cheese :P) which i consider a nasty smell but it's just their diet.
Because people love stereotyping as long as they're not apart of any of those stereotypes. It's very stupid and childish. If you know that you're hygiene is on point than just ignore all of that bullshit.

It is just a stereotype I've heard it before too and while most stereotypes are complete bullshit I do believe that this one does have some truth to it obviously there are people from India who aren't like this but I have visited India 3 times before and a lot of the people there didn't know what deodorant was and they didn't care to use it. I later found out its due to the culture so as long as you don't fit that stereotype then I wouldn't be bothered by it
I think it has to do with the TAKE TO POO TO THE LOO campaign.
Hmmm... I have heard of that stereotype too! I am an Indian living in Australia, and it's not really like that here. I mean... I haven't personally come across anyone here assuming Indians to be smell.
P. S. I don't smell at all!
*to be smelly
because a lot of them do and the ones that do vary.
all stereotypes came from some truth.
Just yesterday I read that about half the population of India did not use toilets, they just crapped and pissed in the streets.
The Indian Government currently has a programmed to put public toilets all over India and to educate people to use them.

India has many exotic smells combined with a hot and humid climate. To many westerners these smells are often unpleasant, hence the stereotype.
Their food stinks but I've never encountered serious body odor
I know a person who jokes about how in India they shit in the street
People need an outlet and you happen to be there. Sorry about that.
I don't know, let's think about it!
