The reality is BLM at some points have gotten that mob mentality and have become too militant at times which is counter productive. The riots and what they chanted in New York are disgusting. But you also fail to look at the other side of things. I've had the opportunity to see key leaders of the BLM movement, mother of Jordan Davis, and mother of Michele Brown. As they were telling their stories they cried in front me. These people really do mean well and I'm sure condemn the violenece on both sides.

They were seen as a weak people who could be easily conquered and taken over. They were viewed as savage and uncivilized, which is far from the truth. It's been going on since 1492 when Europeans first set foot on this side of the world.

Canada in particular has a long history of institutionalized racism against First Nations people, most notably with residential schools. Those schools were run by the Christian church and within the walls there was sexual abuse, forced sterilization, banning students from speaking any language except English or French, beatings, etc. The last school only closed 20 years ago.

This has evolved into movements like Idle No More, which advocates for the fairer treatment of First Nations people and forcing the government to recognize and take action against the racist values they promoted.

We are constantly trying to give consolations and things. (I do approve of that actually)
Now Indian nations have the ability to override all state law in their area and even some federal laws and even a couple international laws, American Indians are the only people in the world who can legally hunt and trade ivory and are allowed to continue their traditional whaling.
Futhermore even some drug laws do not apply to them as peyote is legal if you are a member of a certain tribe.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada recently published the last volume of their findings and history about the treatment of Native peoples in Canada. I believe you can actually access the entire collection online, but it's super long. Each volume is like 5,000 pages, and there's about 9 or 10 volumes, lol. It's extensive. And we do have pretty similar laws when it comes to Natives as well. There is still a lot of work to be done though, like resolving why 1200 or more Native women and children have gone missing or been murdered, or why Natives are far more likely to be DV victims, or why they are more likely to be murdered than any other race in Canada, including blacks.

The inquest is into the deaths of aboriginal women, who are murdered at a fraction of the rate aboriginal men are.

There are kind of three issues with natives in Canada.

First off, there's the history of mistreatment, similar (different details) to the impact of slavery on black americans, and its negative impacts on individual families that then gets propogated.

Second, you have some areas with high native populations, high crime, and racist locals. If you go to a city like Toronto, people are not very racist against natives, but they also barely know any. You go somewhere like Winnipeg, and its a different situation.

Third, you have the reserves, which are a total frigging mess, politically, accountability wise, even the whole premise is just working terribly.

There are a few reasons, some have been touched on, but I'll add another.

BLM, like feminism, or 'conservativism', or mra, or whatever, is a movement, not a top down organization. Like most movements, it has some very legitimate grievances and like most movements it has some other grievances of more questionably validity. It has some tactics that are very reasonable and some that the vast majority of people look down on.

And like any of the above, when someone criticizes them, they will point to the -most- reasonable parts of the movement and say 'how can you NOT support that unless you're racist/sexist/etc.. On the other hand, anyone who doesn't want to support the movement can point to the most extreme parts and say 'how can you support that?'
