Feel free to be as detailed as you'd like.
I saw a question earlier saying how there weren't any "normal" people on GAG and it got me thinking lol
The thing is, normal can mean different things to different people. Teenagers and adloescents will surely be saying that normal is average, that normal is boring, that normal is predictable.
They may be right with some of those.
It depends on the culture, the ethnicity, someone's background... It's strangely subjective...
But the normal is literally the norm. So whatever you consider the most usual is the norm or normal for where you live.
I guess, for me, the normal person would be of average size (185cm) - for some reason I always picture a guy... Haha Then he'd be in his late 30's, or early 40's, he'd have short brown hair, he may have a bit of a belly pooch, plaid shirt tucked in his khakis, be nerdy, but nice, also very job oriented.
Like a grown up and more dishevelled version of this kid:

That picture reminds of the clothing I'd have to wear on Easter when I was really young and visiting family. I've never gotten a plaid shirt since those days haha
So kind of something like this (albeit with different clothing choices)?

185cm = 6'1" is significantly taller than average absolutely everywhere on planet earth.
Yeah, something like that. =)
@redeyemindtricks Not true... I was talking about my country, and specifically the part I live in... is the average height of men.
Do you live in the Dinarics?
www.telegraf.rs/.../892405-za-dlaku-srbi-treci-najvisi-muskarci-na-svetu-crnogorci-dele-prvo-mesto
@redeyemindtricks You do realize this is an article in a cheap newspaper? And not even Croatian?
But this is why I said specifically in my part of Croatia. But in Croatia in general - men I've seen...
Yah alright.
Also, if you mostly hang out among upper-middle-class people (who tend to be somewhat taller than a country's overall average), it's reasonable that the average **of the people you meet** could be an inch or two above the national mean.
Didn't yr profile used to say Serbia? Or am I imagining that lmao
@redeyemindtricks I just hang out with middle class people such as myself.. Most people here are middle class anyways... So no real classes...
Nope, Croatia- always been... o. O
LOL
I remember a thread where I told you about some Colombian denim brands, and I looked up shipping rates to yr country (since you had said eBay shipping rates were prohibitive)... and for some reason my brain is trying to tell me that it was Serbia that I looked up. Weird lol.
I have met some very weirdly tall Croatian guys. The tallest ones came to the US to play volleyball at universities here. (Volleyball is strictly a girls' sport in US high schools, so, men's volleyball teams at our universities are always 100% international students.)
@redeyemindtricks I think it might have to do with sports. A LOT of men around here love sports and are obsessed with it. And usually, during development, if you play sports your bones grow quicker or 'more' for some reason. You must've heard about EU being crazy about football - well, Croatians are literally obsessed with it and every little boy wants to be a football player (or basketball or handball) when he grows up.
That's the only rational way I can explain it. xD
Regular physical activity in childhood increases bone *mass* and *density* -- in other words, it gives kids a more SOLID skeletal structure, which protects them better against injury all their lives and against osteoporosis when they get old -- but, no, there is no scientific evidence anywhere that it makes kids grow any TALLER.
All of the studies that have been done -- literally, all of them -- have reached conclusions similar to those of this one:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/8052116/
Also, if kids start doing heavy weightlifting too soon, that can cause them to have a shorter adult height (by accelerating the closure rate of epiphyses/"growth plates").
If there is any positive correlation at all between youth sports and height, that *might* conceivably happen simply because kids who play sports get super hungry, eat a LOT more food, and thus get more nutrients of all kinds. Trust me -- I grew up with 4 brothers who all played sports, and I have 3 athletic kids right now. (:
@redeyemindtricks Good things to know. =)
When the phrase "normal people" is used in any sort of SERIOUS discussion, it's *always* used to contrast with some SPECIFIC weird/extreme/abnormal trait of someone in question.
Like, if the conversation were about, say, pedophiles -- who we can all agree are not "normal", at least in that aspect of their psychology -- one can say that "normal" people do not feel any arousal toward pre-pubescent and pubescent children.
Or if the conversation were about weather preferences, I talk about how I go run my favorite outdoor stairs when "normal" people stay indoors in a/c (like when it's 105-110° outside).
I don't think anyone would use "normal" to refer to an entire typology of people unless they were doing so strictly humorously. Like #normcore kinda thing.
Maybe it would help if I gave more background info on it.
I saw this question earlier:
www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q2062099-are-there-any-normal-guys-on-here
So, based on the question / question description, it appears OP believes a "normal" man has specific traits. I wanted to leave things more open ended, so I simply asked a generic question and wanted to see where people ran with it.
I was curious to imagine what a stereotypical "normal" person would be considered when imagined in the eyes of other people. Everything else is intentionally vague and left up to the reader to interpret.
See, my point exactly -- That asker is thinking specifically in terms of dating.
And more probably -- considering she's complaining about advice on an internet forum -- she's probably thinking about one or two VERY specific things (that people would talk about on an internet forum).
Like mb this weird obsession that the internet has with exact numbers of previous sex partners, or with exact dick measurements -- neither of which is the slightest of a thing out there in the big bad Real World.
The asker on that thread hasn't really responded in any way that would explain anything, but you can be 100% sure that she just got worked up over something SUPER SPECIFIC that she read, and that is what she is on about.
(:
She is very obviously not asking whether there is anyone on here who singlehandedly represents a good cross-section of young America.
In regards to that then, a normal person is really just a compilation of averages of specific traits. If you throw in enough averages of something, you start getting a mental image of something. People have the option of thinking on however many terms they want to, but I do believe this question is answerable-- simply because there are averages to generally everything... Real or not. If not, there tend to be averages we assume (whether or not we know the actual statistics or not).
People throw around all the time in specific things what normal is, kind of like what you talk about. There is no reason one can't combine those specific categories to contribute into one "normal" person.
Yeah, but, a person who's theoretically normie on EVERY trait would actually be super weird. (Think how weird it would be if someone had exactly the average level of interest in EVERY subject -- and thus had no specific interests! That'd be very... abnormal (: )
So, #nope it's not as simple as just combining the mean values of every first-order trait.
Yr theoretical perfect normie would need a "normal" or "average" amount of ABnormality / specialized interest / "weirdness", too. And that's why this whole concept is actually a non-concept.
Lol you are making it complicated. I understand your issues with it though. I have even seen a video before assessing how the statistical average of every graph would be weird, but the compilation of averages is still normal in my opinion. But, I would argue normal is simply a base model to derive others off of. The base model in this case may not be realistic, but it still is conceptable.
It's like when you try to label something as the "best fruit" and people pick "apple." (There's an experiment with it, but I'd have to look off my notes.) Well, a banana is still a fruit just like an apple, but people use apple to compare how fruitlike other fruit are.
So I would propose "normal" to mean statistical average with a few stipulations:
1.) It's a hypothetical model which probably does not exist in real life.
2.) Normal is a base model to derive others off of.
3.) People can derive from the base model quite extensively but it compiles the most features of the most people.
#YesWeCan 😁
Ehh, I still think you'll run into way more problems than you think.
For instance -- speaking of statistical averages -- if you take the statistical average of a big enough sample of faces, you usually end up with a "classic beauty" type of face that's ranked more beautiful than any of the faces that were averaged to get it. (Like, if you average a thousand faces that were rated 5/10, the resulting "average" face will be rated 8/10 or 9/10.)
I'm not enough of an abstract thinker to tell you exactly what the analogy would be there for personality traits, but, it's inevitable that any attempt at "averaging" people is going to result in someone who is distinctly NOT average, in many ways.
Haha I believe it can be done. The base model is never meant to be perfect, but it is meant to be the most complete model. It's a hypothetical abstract representation of what a "human being" is.
Like I would hypotheisize that, if asked someone to "rate the most normal human being," and then given a picture of Jared Letto, a picture of an obviously insanely rich woman named Janelia, and a picture of a man named Joe Smith... People are probably going to pick Joe Smith. And, If something can be defined as more normal than someone else, I believe a base model of averages can be created.
That is quite an interesting thought experiment though-- whether or not a large number of averaged "5/10" faces would create a "9/10" look. Hmm...
Tx for the MH luv <3
Aye no problem me matey

To me, normal is someone who is a bandwagon... Dresses in Hollister, VS Pink, wears Uggs, just the ideal.. Basic look nowadays.. Its boring.. And they (normal people) have such dull personalities, no uniqueness.. I even cringe at seeing 'normal people' just in text! If someone said there's no one normal in GAG, that'd actually intrigue me to check them out. I love weird, I love uniqueness, people who are comfortable with being themselves ! For example, speaking of celebrities, I'd consider Taylor Swift normal, there's nothing special about her or her music.. But Melanie Martinez isn't normal, she's unique, and she has very meaningful, impressing songs.
So normal to you essentially = mainstream?
Hmm. This is my super average/normal person:
Looks: someone who can blend in well in a crowd, nothing special or outstanding, a face you forget pretty easily because you've seen lots of people with similar physical attributes, wears pretty much the same clothes that are seen on everybody (not super trendy but not hipster either, something that blends in)
Personality: someone who goes with the flow/follows the stream, afraid to stand out or be slightly different, someone who doesn't have any strong views/values, adjusts easily to situations and people.. etc.
Personally I think "normal" means they are civilized. In the sense that they don't try to resolve problems with violence and selling.
Anyone who tries to resolve their conflicts with beating the other person to a pulp or yelling at them and calling them names just don't qualify to be considered "normal", they are psychotic and immature.
Interesting stance. So do you believe that the average/majority of people are mature (or at the very least, would resolve their issues without violence and selling)?
Selling was meant to be yelling. Apparently autocorrect it sometimes my enemy.
I think I don't know the majority of people and my opinion would be biased, but the white majority seems to be meeting this condition better than the people of Roma descent, for example.
A normal person is not ugly, nor pretty: The person's average. Plain looking clothes, such as a shirt and jeans, but not with a lot of color. Darker hair, brown eyes and 1,70-1,80 in height. He/She is nice, but he/she doesn't go out very often and does stuff on their laptop or computer a lot.

Lmao I sing to myself too, I just do it when no one is around
Any person that I don't sit there and go...
scontent.cdninstagram.com/.../..._2030724469_n.jpg
through the entire conversation is a normal person.
I guess the traits would be not to offensive, opinionated, or overwhelming to the point that they live like they are in a drama production all the time!
Generic, boring, plain, one dimensional I don't know those are just all the adjectives I associate with "normal"
Interesting perspective. So normal is a pretty negative term for you?
status quo. For a woman around 5'4, brown hair, not thick not thin, brown eyes, tan complextion. Man around 5'10", brown or non descript hair, brown eyes, tan complextion, a little beer belly. Someone who more or less follows status quo, they may follow trends. Normal is whatever is currently (or has been for some time) done by the majority.
Someone who is socially acceptable, attractive, slim, polite, has a decent job, is not a complete stoner, religious beliefs are intact, eats an adequate amount, has a significant other.
>>> religious beliefs are intact,
I would rather not claim that to be a part of normalcy, but otherwise I agree.
@Mesonfielde haha
Normal is anyone that fits into the median. Kind of like the basic kind of people you see if that makes any sense.
personality: Someone who does what society tells them to.
looks: someone who doesn't look like an instagram model.
Someone that's boring... and does the average that society exspects them to do... get a job... raise family... and then die
someone who just follows along with society, image, fashion, materialism, etc...
How would you describe a "normal" person?
Reasonable and prudent.
170lbs 5"10 .. College grad holding some bullshit degree. 5/10 facial aesthetics. Dad Bod. basic bitch. I don't know
A fearful PC conformist that needs approval and permission.
Watches Fox news, average to slightly overweight, average looks, eats fast food often, etc.
boring, either male or female, who is interested in most of the things going on into social networks, tv, music tvs etc. you know, a sheep
Someone who scurries around in the attic frantically, cooing and chirping loudly.
someone who looks plain
There is no normal, we're a bunch of weirdos.
But... But if we're all weird...
Does that mean weird is actually the norm?
https://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2013/10/woah.gif
Maybe Normalcy is the common denominator
@Mesonfielde mind = blown
Someone who is themselves, there is no such thing as normal so we all have our own opinions on it. Normal to me is being you.
Normal = boring AF
Mm indeed. I positively do concur. Slightly aghast from the societal and cultural norms is quite exquisite and preferable if I do say so myself. *sips drink, pinky up*
