The rainbow flag has been historically used for many cultures.
I am Peruvian-American. The rainbow flag waves across South America as a homage to the indigenous Native people of my land that go back to ancient times.
This is the Flag of Cusco, that represents my ancestors.
In the 1980s Gilbert Baker invented the LBGT flag which is this flag.
They look similar, maybe it was a coincidence and not just copying.
I can't proudly wave my ancestors flag anymore because the LBGT took away all the sacred meaning the flag had to my native people. When Americans tourist go to South America and see the flag they confuse it for the rainbow flag and give it some "Gay" meaning. I've even seen LBGTQ tourist take selfies in sacred monuments/ temples that carry the flag of the Natives and they say things like "US gays took over LMFAO" because they don't understand what it means. I'm upset that the guy who invented it didn't check to see if he was affecting another culture.
Thats like me wanting to invent a flag for satanism and I used a white flag with a red dot and then don't even bother to check if my flag will affect others. I don't want to hear it from people who are going to tell me "You should be proud the rainbow flag means both things"
Sorry but my pride as a Native is more important than pride as a gay person. It's just an orientation to me thats it, nothing special. I'm not down with LBGTQ pride. My culture, my ancestors, my history, my land, that's important to me, thats who I am.
It upsets me that in America I can no longer wave the rainbow flag because it doesn't have the meaning I intent and I feel the LBGTQ community just stepped on my culture. If it was up to me I would rather the LBGTQ flag have a unique look.
Or the very least many of the LBGTQ should educate themselves and not act like they were the first ones to come up with the rainbow flag, you have no idea how many people I've heard tell me "Oh so the Peruvian natives copied the rainbow flag?"

This is both wrong and dishonest. You make it sound like the pride flag was directly ripped from Cusco with some sort of malicious intent and the flag of Cusco is very old. The flag of Cusco was introduced in 1973. The (Original) Pride flag with 8 colours was introduced 1978. The Pride flag is thought to be inspired from the song ""Over the Rainbow". Someone, who isn't a flag nerd, especially in that time when easy internet access wasn't a thing isn't going to realise that the flag they made is similar to a much more obscure flag from a different country which speaks a different language. Compared to you comparing making a Satanist flag to that's just like the Japanese flag isn't a fair analogy. The Japanese flag is very well known and recognisable.
As a massive flag nerd, I am disappointed in you.

Wow I didn't know this, I do agree with your statements and I think you're right for feeling the way you do. The flags do resemble each other act with minor differences but definitely plagiarism on Bakers' part.
Oh ok thank you. I just think gay people could do a batter flag, hey maybe one way more artistic and even more beautiful than a rainbow. It's just that the rainbow flag means a lot to me and my culture. The native people of my land have been slaves, invaded our cultures were washed away, we try to keep the little we have left, we don't want to become an extinct group
I understand that, and I think it is a very legitimate concern. Everyone wants something that is their own. It might be a good idea to propose a new flag idea to the LGBTQ community, for the sake of both communities. You're right about extincting another culture's credit. And afterall, nobody wants to go down in history as a "flag stealer". I know that sounds stupid... but it's true. I give you props for being open minded. I think you should definitely see if this could go somewhere. It is possible the LGBTQ community is completely unaware of this :/
I just think its too late lol. The very least I would want is for LBGTQ people to understand that that the rainbow does not belong to them and other cultures have them too so if they see a rainbow flag they shouldn't automatically assume its a gay pride thing. Especially, especially if you are going to a foreign country where you should expect different customs.
Never know. The LGBTQ is a very sensitive community. Even though I don't agree with their beliefs, I will admit: they're pretty compassionate people, for the most part... Don't be afraid to try..:

I don't think being gay means you have to be a lefty at all. In fact, there are many who aren't. Milo Yiannapaulos being one of the most infamous or the gays for Trump. You sound pretty cool though, i wouldn't associate yourself with too far into the left if thats where you see yourself though

You know many native American tribes in the USA and people from South Asia had to stop using the mart that resembles the "Nazi" symbol after hitlers little party.
For them it's not just about it representing something bad, the problem is that it doesn't represent what they intended in the first place.
many people don't really care that hitler used that symbol for bad, what bothers them si that they can no longer wave that symbol without the intended meaning coming out.
