Apparently many studies show this, whether you believe hot people are treated better. Taller men (tall men are generally seen as more attractive) usually are paid more. Thinner women (slim women are generally seen more attractive) are on average paid more. And yes both of those take skills, education, etc into account. Teachers give attractive students more help and attention, and even better grades! Women with larger breasts are given more tips (well, duh, I don't know why a study is needed for this). Etc. Etc. Etc.
Personally, I do think there is a bias for attractive people. You dont really need studies to show you when you see men holding doors open for you when you are dressed up, but then let it slam in your face when you look like a mess (yes, this has happened to me! lol it was even the same guy!) You can tell when teachers ignore you and favor other children. I'm sure many guys can tell when if you are to ask a girl out in an outlandish way you're considered the creep, but if a hot guy did it, he's soooo sweet and romantic. We all favor attractive people, and we all maybe subconsciously treat them better, whether we want to or not. So before you go hating on the people who treat attractive people better and sure that may mean that we won't be favored in many situations, but remember that we're only human, we're predisposed to see beauty=health.

I disagree. I just wanted to read the study for the tips vs breast size. It only says number of study participants and the fact that the participants were the ones that provided their breast size and also the tips they received in the period that was the study made over. Not enough to be able to take this into consideration and state without a doubt that good looking people are treated better. Plus how is a breast size study evidence that good looking people are treated better in the first place, isn't it? Also, since when is breast size alone (as in the study), the mark of good looks. I know girls with huge breasts and ugly as fuck. Just saying. So if these ugly girls, as according to the study, would get better tips, would only mean that having big breasts influences the tip and that's it, but you cannot draw the line and state that good looking people in general are treated better because of that. (as you want to make it sound in your question)
Getting back to the study itself. Let's assume that ALL the girls were good looking with breast size varying. Since there are 432 waitresses in the study, I assume that they weren't ALL working in the same exact place. So how about other variables that might have influenced the tips they got? Like: time the food got there, how luxurious is the place, the overall cleanliness of the place, the music that was being played (if any), the actual taste of the food, not having food and beverage that customer actually wanted to order? It's sad the author of the article states he has a Ph. D (in case he has it) and makes such statements and remarks with such little data at hand
To consider such a test as evidence to support your remark or even just the fact that breast size alone influences tips, make sure that the waitresses have the same serving conditions. So: take good looking personnel, different breast sizes, take them to serve in SAME location, dress them the same, have hair done the same way, with the same chef preparing the dishes. Make sure plates are served around 10-15 minutes ALL the time, have waitresses instructed to ALL say the same things in terms of saluting and taking orders. If girls with bigger breasts get bigger tips (not self-reported tips, but counted by someone impartial) then ok we might conclude that bigger breasts brings bigger tips. Standardizing would maximize the accuracy of such a study.
Also you could use the same setting, but this time bring both really good looking and average looking girls as waitresses, keep the rest of the variables as presented above and then see: are good looking girls really getting better tips? If yes, then voila. But that’s the key, standardize and remove variables from the study to make it as conclusive as possible. I am a good looking person that always gets attention from girls and guys want to prove something in front of me. So if you make a study and the people that interact with me are only guys around my age, they will maybe dislike that I’m better looking, see me as a threat to their ability to get a girl and treat me like shit. So, the result of that study would be: good looking people are treated like shit by same age same sex people. I was waiting in line at pharmacy and I was next up to get my receipt. Girl in another bigger line, jumps in front of me. If I would have to rate her looks alone I’d say a solid 8.
Pharmacist girl sees this and tells the person to step aside as I was next. I simply smile, say it’s ok and that I’m not in a hurry. Even if this girl was good looking the pharmacist told her to wait her turn and only helped her when I said I’m ok. Pharmacist takes care of that girl in a really polite way (due to nature of her job) but cold at the same time because of what she did. Then my turn came.. again. Pharmacist suddenly puts the biggest smile on her face and goes beyond the usual politeness. I finally leave, but return to look at something, pharmacist sees me, smiles again and follows me with her eyes which were literally glowing… We were both polite to each other and as a result, we treated each other nice. Now let’s imagine this in a different way: I see the girl cutting the line and jumping in front of me, I start to scream and shout and tell the pharmacist it is my turn and make a scene.
Do you think the pharmacist would have still smiled OR rather say to herself that she hopes I die when I step outside?

Yes speaking about attraction and the first impression, I am sure that I would be more attractive than average guys in the eyes of a girl I just met. That does not mean she will think I am sweet when I whisper in her ear that I'd want to destroy her ass or that I masturbate to her pictures.
You're putting way too much thought into that. Most guys would agree bigger boobs are better/more attractive. Of course big boobs aren't the only things that matter, but if everything else is equal, people would rather her with medium to big as opposed to small boobs. I've personally never heard "wow, did you see how small her boobs are?" But I've definitely heard men happy/excited over big boobs.
I've no idea if they gets payed more than lesser attractive people. But I've heard that if you're good looking, you can do more mistakes before people gets pissed off compared to a non-attractive person, it's easier to get popular, more people flirts with you and more people are nice to you. Especially they who's in love with the attractive person treat them very good.
But I've also heard cases where people gets jealous at a person because they are good looking and then throws acid in their face in order to make them appear "uglier". But these cases aren't so common in the West and happens more in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and India.
I'm going to be real honest here and say that I overall get treated by society better now that I'm grown up and attractive but a whole lot worse when I was an ugly little duckling. I never have to buy my own alcohol because someone is always there to make the offer. When my car broke down on the side of the road, the state Department of Transportation guys who pulled over were more than willing to help me (and one of them remembered me when we crossed paths 4 months later). But being attractive doesn't mean you get an easy ride in life. I only made $22,000 last year, so don't go around accusing me of making more than anybody else because I'm attractive because I'm not even making more than everybody else
When I was a kid, people used to bully me for being ugly and looking like a guy. My mother wouldn't let me shave until high school, so I got made fun of for having Harry legs like a guy. I was also overweight as a child and didn't lose that extra weight until high school, and plenty of people ridiculed me for my extra pudge (I wasn't really that fat, but people were still mean about it)
As someone who has been on both sides of this equation, I can affirmatively say that pretty people get treated better by society than ugly people. But I refuse to treat anybody differently purely based on looks also due to my experience. I try to treat everyone the same unless they do something like invade my personal space, slander, or assault me, or otherwise make me feel uncomfortable or unsafe. But if you look homeless, I'm going to treat you like you're homeless and ignore you until you go away
Well said. I used to dress up in dress clothes when I was little, was and still am less attractive. The other kids use to beat me up. One time they shoved me into a locker and hung me up by my tie. That was the last time I wore a tie to school. I try my best to treat people equally but find it hard to sometimes. It's like natural instincts kick in. Also I know NOT all people attractive people make more. I think it's more of "they have a better chance at making more than me" thing. Like an attractive lady friend of mine makes way less than me, but she also lives in a different state where they haven't raised the minimum wage yet. A guy that I trained in at my work place actually started out 11cents more per hour than I did. He was very much attractive and loved by everyone.
Kids are basically assholes until someone teaches them how to behave properly and they learn how society works. I used to get in fights all the time with kids who picked on me, but that was usually with boys because little girls aren't as physical and tend to be vicious in passive aggressive ways
I think being short has something against me as well because taller people make more. I also look really young, so customers discredit me because they don't realize I've been working for my company longer than anyone else there. I'm supposed to get another promotion soon, but it's really irritating to watch other people get promoted above me when I can do their job better than them

Oh they definitely get better treatment. I have to admit, as a teacher I am at least like maybe a tiiiiny bit more tolerant towards a misbehaving kid who is at least still cute, compared to a misbehaving kid who is not cute at all. (I handle 3-5 year olds). When they're older though, cuteness doesn't play a factor anymore. And my coworker actually says it out loud when I complained to him about an impossible kid: "and he's not even cute!"
And I have seen how salespeople flock when a tall white guy enters the shop, and when I entered the shop (I'm just another Asian girl), nobody even greeted me. Fucking Thais and their white fever
I definitely notice some people treat me better when I go out dolled up, but even when I'm not most people treat me good say in retail, because I'm always super nice.

Cause there's probably a 95 percent chance that if they say they haven't, they're lying. Sometime, SOMEWHERE, when you were either younger and more naive or hell, maybe even now, it's hit you at some point.

I am aware of that study about teachers, by the way. What is also true is that students treat attractive teachers better. *PARENTS* treat their attractive offspring better than their unattractive offspring.
I'm inclined to shrug and say, "Meh, it's the natural way of things." It's very difficult to legislate such things to ensure fairness. However, don't interpret this to mean that I have no sympathy. I have the deepest sympathy for the unattractive. I am very wary of passing laws about it.
What bugs the he'll out of me is people who deny this. People who, as near as I can tell, make absolutely ZERO effort to attempt to put themselves in the shoes of the unattractive. People who don't try to think what it would be like if there were much less of a support system in place to help them.

Seriously though, I make every effort to be equitable to all students. That being said, I am human and if I am ton be intellectually honest I must concede I fail from time to time. I am not conscious of it, but I would be surprised if I discovered that my efforts to be equitable sometimes fell short.
I have never noticed it in my peers, but I concede that I am a biased judge. Perhaps they are more attentive to good looking kids in ways I am not aware of.
I was first made aware of this phenomenon when I was studying to be a teacher. I would point out that in the studies I read, it only came down to teachers being more ATTENTIVE to attractive students. Not actually fudging grades.

A) A girl who, through wide consensus, is considered a 6.5/10 -- just slightly better than average looks. However, she has this glowing energy about her -- a positive and enthusiastic vibe with a boisterous laugh and a very friendly smile. She's the type of person that everyone wants at a party.
B) A girl who, through wide consensus, is considered a whopping 8.8/10. However, she has a very negative attitude, is rather stand-offish, and almost completely lacks a sense of humor.
I would make a generous bet in almost all areas of society except maybe one that doesn't require much social interaction and blatantly focused on looks (modeling industry, e. g.), girl A will receive far, far better treatment.
Yeah, but studies show that a pretty bitch is uglier and seen as less attractive then a plain women who is kind. at least from a male perspective, studies also show that warmth and strength (being kind or knowing your shit) have a greater influence.

there are a few things we can do to fix some (but not all) of these problems. some of these are easier said than done. employers can be legally required to decide their raises based on certain legally mandated universal performance measures. I don't know if we can do much about teachers being more helpful or attentive towards the attractive students than the unattractive students, but their tests can be graded by another teacher who doesn't know them. also, instead of writing their names, the students can write a roll number. tipping should be illegal anyway for reasons not related to looks and the minimum wage should be raised to reach must peoples requirements. holding doors open for people is going out of fashion anyway and automatic sliding doors are the new norm in most public spaces. I don't know what to do about the other situations though.
It's true. I've seen it first hand. Where I used to work, there were basically two computer-related sections. The technicals (the haves), and the operations/tape library people (the have-nots). One day, I was looking at the company newsletter, and it showed pictures of the student/summer hires. One picture showed the ones assigned to the technical section, and almost all of them were foxes and hunks. The other picture showed the ones assigned to the operations section. Most of them were overweight or looked like the kind of people no one would ask on a date. Coincidence? I REALLLY doubt it.
Multiple times I've had employees treat me better than other customers. Example: two times I had one skip a person who walked in ahead of me to assist me first. Example: giving me a discount or free item (sometimes in front of other customers who are not as attractive).
I've also had teachers/professors grade me more kindly and give me assistance not offered to other students. Example: Letting me review lecture slides during office hours even though he had already told the class that he would not do this.
People pay for stuff for me. Example: Paying for all my games at an arcade or all my drinks at a bar.
While enjoyable I'm definitely aware of how unfair it is. I'm sure it sucks to be on the other end of these benefits.
After working almost three years as a cart monkey at Walmart, I've learned that people treated me differently based on my appearance and how I gave off vibes. I am by no means attractive. I am more of the less attractive type of guy. I have noticed that people seem more friendlier when I dress more neatly/fashionable. Also when I smile more or give off a positive vibe. I have trained in many people because many of them don't stay long. The less attractive ones got more of a cold shoulder. No one talks to them, barely smiles at them, seem rude to them and seem not care to stop their car for them. The attractive guys would almost always get smile, stopped cars and people talking to them. Today at work this lady actually rammed a cart into my knee. She didn't say sorry or anything. Just gave me a dirty look like I murdered a puppy. I feel invisible and I hate it
Yes, I think this is true. Everyone has an invisible ladder they are trying to climb, and our instinct is to think that attractive people--even people of the sex we are not attracted to--have the power to elevate us with them.
I can't say whether I'm attractive in general, but there are a couple times I remember girls who I think were attracted to me at cafes / bars gave me free drinks.
I can say that whatever privileges attractive people get do not make them happier than others, not, at least, in a lasting and meaningful way.
I think so and I'm guilty of this myself. If I have two female coworkers who ask for help, one attractive and one not, I'll help both. However I'll begrudgingly help the less attractive one and willingly help the attractive one. It's not like I do this on intentionally. I only realize it after the fact.
Yes, i was a patient in the hospital back in 2008-2009 i remember this young Blonde hair nurse treat my roommate way better than she treated me.. The thing is i knew my roommate real well he is much older than me but his mother and his brothers was my maternal grandparents neighbor for years but he went down the wrong road in life and ended up on heroin but not to judge him but he had infection on his arm from shooting up wrong way My opinion i was mistreated by the nurse cause she catered to him and felt it was all done cause of my physical appearance so if this is what you mean than I was a victim too. I've loss lot weight due to my complex and low self esteem but I will be honest i never will date real attractive girls besides beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I believe that lookism, judging a person's character based on physical appearance, is unfortunately a reality. Too often, animated cartoons for children portray villains as ugly and heroes as handsome. The association of physical appearance to character, it seems, begins at an early age.
But then, attractiveness really is subjective. I have a slender body, but my face is characteristically Asian. High eyebrows, plump face. No wonder I'm still single. :-P
Imagine a beautiful lady coming over for an interview, next to her a simple looking woman. They have to decide who they will grant the job to.
Who could it possibly be? The the simple "unnattractive" looking woman OR the cute/attractive/beautiful lady?
It definitely happens all the time. Very unequal for both genders.

It's relatively true. Like from first impressions if a guy is better looking and polite, then it's assumed that he'll get more attention. But if you take out his polite manners out of the equation, then I don't think many people will receive him the same way. You see most people do take appearance into account but they simultaneously judge his personality too. Also they judge if he is interesting enough. And his other qualities.
Alas, Human beings are quite fickle and judgmental, so they judge others to meet their own standards. Some may prioritize appearance over other qualities but their are also some who favor other qualities over appearance. Basically, It depends on person to person.
I give praise to the ones who deserve it. Go to twin peaks and see how many times your waitress disappears for the entire meal only to return when she sees your finished, thinking she's going to still get tipped because she's good looking. This happened one time with a buddy of mine and I think I tipped anyways because I knew he was going to drag me back their at some point in the near future and I didn't want my food to be "played with" If I was alone I would have spoke with the manager and gotten my money back.
Disagree with "we all treat attractive people better" claim. I believe that some people treat them better just because of their looks and some people treat them like crap. Depends on the person. And I've never seen anyone purposely close the door in someone's face due to their looks, lmao. People holding the door open for others is common courtesy.
Ah, "ah least once". If you're talking about "at least once in your life" then yes. I read it as you claiming that we all do it on a regular basis. Just like when you said "we all favor attractive people" Which I disagree with. There's more to it than that. Looks are subjective. It's pretty out there to claim that we all favor attractive people and treat them better just because they're attractive. For the "we all favor attractive people" bit. It's common for people to treat those who they are attracted to (as a person. physically AND mentally) better because they like that person. & "Women with larger breasts are getting more tips" Having larger breasts does not mean that the person is attractive. There's a difference between treating someone "better" and treating someone with interest.
Yes, I think that attractive females have it easier versus someone who is not as attractive as her. Also, you have some guys who treat attractive females mean because they figure she gets a lot of attention from men and they dont want to boost her ego anymore. I also notice that women who are attractive have this "entitled" attitude.
