Is it wrong to read my boyfriend's journal, even if there is nothing wrong in it?

One day I was cleaning my boyfriends room and while I was cleaning his desk, I found a book and lifted it up so I could finish dusting but I accidentally dropped it. I picked it up and saw it had dates and entries in it.

Out of curiosity I read it and found out it is a week by week journal and note/doodle book my boyfriend uses. It stretches back to 1 year ago and we have only been together for 8 months.

Since he was gone this week I have been reading it and I'm about 4/5 done. It has a lot of things in it, like his ideology, thoughts, poems, ideas, drawings, etc. And its pretty interesting and I liked some of it, I never knew he was such a great writer. and I Haven't found anything that would say he was unfaithful or anything. he has entries about me and they are very sweet but nothing else about any other girl.

I like his work and all, and I have learned some things about him like his interest and likes and I plan on using this knowledge to help me understand him more and strengthen our relationship.

If I'm doing this with good intentions, and he has no bad things in there that are embarrassing and stuff, is it wrong for me to be reading this or is it okay?

Just because we have good intentions, doesn't take away the fact that we may have done something wrong/offend the person. It's our actions that stand out the most.

A couple of hours ago, I ate my roommate's last yogurt. Why? I thought he was leaving (he wouldn't be back till mid September when fall quarter starts at our university), and I didn't want the yogurt go to waste(I saw the best buy date was early June 2011, so I ate it today because I didn't want it to get spoiled). Turns out that he wasn't leaving today, and he came back a few hours after the incident. As soon as he came in, I told him what I did. He was mad at first, and I did offer him one of my yogurts, and apologized of course, and even offered him money as well. I felt terrible. But yeah, I should have waited at least a day and/or called him just in case.

Another short case is... I hate it when I come back home from college and go back to my room.. and I see my mom taking out my trash (from trash can). yeah, she has good intentions, but I don't like it when people touch my stuff.

But yeah.. Like I said.. Just because we have good intentions when we touch people's belongings , doesn't mean they will be okay with it. Always ask, or don't it in the first place. /=

It's still wrong. You should have stopped before you knew whether there was anything in the book about other girls and just trusted him. It's just the same as going through someones text messages or computer. I'd break up with my girlfriend if she did that.

It's still an invasion of privacy, even if you didn't find anything bad in there. I can't stand it when people do that. My mom also "happened" across one of my journals and confronted me about something personal I had written about it. Horrible experience. It doesn't matter what you find in there, it's not right or cool. I think you should tell him what you did -- he deserves to know.

YES. It shows a complete lack of boundaries. How would you feel if he did the same thing? I can't understand people who do this, I don't want the person I'm dating to read my texts or emails so diary is way worse, it has my innermost thoughts. Tell me, if it had said things that made you uncomfortable, would you keep reading?

NO. Don't ever invade someone's privacy like that. What do think his reaction will be to you telling him you read it - he'll probably find out by the way. Even if he acts like it's cool, he'll probably still feel a little upset that you violated his personal outlet like that. I'd be pissed if my significant other did that.

Still wrong. Why can't people have any f***ing privacy anymore? You know you could've have gotten his "interests and likes" if you had asked him! Make sure you tell him too. So that he knows not to leave you in his room alone. Oh, and what if he had written something about you? What if he was pissed one day and vented to his own personal journal and you read it? Just be f***ing glad there wasn't any of that.
