My waiter asked me for my number?

My waiter at Red Lobster this past Saturday evening flirted with me, and I flirted with him. We were a table of girls, so he was generally talkative to us all.

I asked him to take a picture of our table, and he said something along the lines of, "Well I don't know.. I can't get in the picture if I take it."

Later, my friend suggested that we ask to take our picture with him, so when the time came to ask, she chickened out leaving me to ask the question.. which I did. He gladly agreed to a photo, but then asked me why to which I responded that we thought he was "good-looking."

He smiled when I said this and said, "well, you know you're really pretty yourself, how about dropping a number?" I laughed and disregarded the number request, so he then sat down and began asking where we went to school, things like that. I told him I lived an hour away and he goes, "Dang, why are all the pretty girls from out of town?"

Anyways, the time comes to pay our bill, he brings us our receipts, we all sign and hand the pens back. But, when I handed him mine he goes, "No, you have to keep your pen." I asked why, and my friend said, "So that you can give him your number."

"Yes! Exactly!" was his response. So.. I left him my number on the restaurant copy of my receipt (which I hope he found). We took the picture, he also said that we had "made his day." When we were leaving my friends said the other waiters were patting him on the back, and giving him high fives.

So getting down to the real question: What is the consensus when it comes to the amount of time it will take for a guy to text or call you after getting your number? ..assuming there a "given amount of time."

And two: Does it seem that he was generally interested, or just trying to get a number for the heck of it?

TL;DR: Generally, how long does it take for a guy to text or call you after getting your number?
