No, I don't call my friends baby. To be honest, I haven't even used that word on my past boyfriends lol. Anyway, the reason I don't is because they aren't my "baby" and usually that word is reserved for people in relationships. I call my friends and hypothetical boyfriend "dear," "honey," etc.

I don't know how I'd feel if my SO did that. I would obviously ask him why he calls his friends "baby," and think it's kind of weird.

I call my boyfriend babe/baby. The only other people I call that are like two specific girl friends, and it's always in a joking manner. So I doubt he would care. If they were male friends, he'd feel differently, and I would understand that, because I would be pissed if he were calling other girls that too.

@Update, yes, I would. If he said it jokingly to a male friend, that's one thing. But saying it to a girl friend, even jokingly, I would bring it up later, because I wouldn't go there [even jokingly] with a male friend of mine, out of respect for my boyfriend, knowing he wouldn't like it. If he did that, I would express my discomfort with it as soon as we were in a more private setting.

I think it's a wee bit weird. I think of the term "baby" or "babe" in regards to romantic relationships, not platonic ones.

However, I'll sometimes call my close female friends "hun", "sweetie", or "love". Or with my best friend, "schnuggums", lol. (And she calls me "sugarbum"). Don't ask. :P

I call my girlfriends babe (sarcastically) but usually it's d***head, a**hole, idiot, dipsh*t, f***tard, or just regular old honey.

I'd call my SO baby and other assorted silly names. If they called their friend SO I doubt I'd think much of it.
