Never get involved with people at work and the boss is even worse. Not only will your coworkers hate you and think you get preferred treatment but it puts an unbelievable strain on the relationship.
If you can get a new job like you wanted, by all means try it and see what happens, but not when you're still working for him.

You're wise not to cultivate a 'more-than-friendship' relation with him. When you work at a different job, then Go For It! Until then, stay professional.

Are you sure he's not treating you differently from everyone else because you are defferent from everyone else? You said you're dependable and a hardworker so maybe he treats you more like a friend because you do what you are told to do.
its usually not a good idea to date your boss , sort of along the same line as dating your landlord . there could be some potential issues .
