He likes me, I like him, but we work together!! How can I convince him it's a good idea?

So this guy and I have been really flirty throughout the summer, getting closer as the weeks went by. We text often, talk often, always go on break together, he's very nice to me, goes out of his way to do things for me. I know for a fact he likes me because he pretty much told me. We texted the other night for a few hours, exchanging like 90 messages. Towards the end of the convo, I said something to which he said "that sounds like a date to me..." then he added, "that was a test for you." and I asked him how I could pass the test, then basically told him that I prefer when guys ask girls out. Then he was like "hmmm I have some things to go over..."

The problem is that we work together. I don't really have a problem with it though, it seems like he is worried about it. We are both 21, our job is part time and so we will not be there forever. I am putting myself through school and then hopefully leaving when I find a "real" job.

When I saw him in person the next day, he said: if he decides to do it (ask me out), there are some things he has to think about. He said, "if we go out, what happens if we break up? People here talk and I don't want them talking about us" "There are consequences if we do this... I don't wan things to be awkward"

I'm not really sure what to think about this. Since I thought he liked me since the springtime (at least), we have only gotten much closer. I mentioned hanging out one time and he brought it up like 3x since I first proposed the idea. Then he throws this at me? So is he just trying to lay down the consequences and make sure we both know what we are getting into? I don't know what to do!

we didn't really have time to talk because we were working. Then he went home and said "talk to ya later..." We haven't talked yet but that was last night.
