This guy invited me to his birthday party..?

Okay, so story time.

I'm 19. I'm a freshman in college. There's this guy in my computer class who has never said a word to me, up until the other day. I was standing in the hallway waiting on class to start and he came up to me and started asking me if I was ready for the test and what not. We had maybe a 2 minute conversation. I friend requested him on Facebook, because, well, why not? He accepted and we talked about what we got on the test, but it was never back to back responses...they were about an hour or so apart. Well, I wake up this morning and see that I have an invitation on Facebook to his 22nd birthday party. He only invited 46 people. I looked to see if I knew anyone that was invited, and there is only one other girl in my computer class that he invited. There are about 6 girls total that he invited. I don't know if I should be flattered he likes me, or if he was just adding anyone he could think of. I would think I should be flattered because wouldn't most people invite most of their friend's list if they didn't care? I guess my main question is should I take this as a sign that there is some potential interest? Or should I just think of it as a friends thing? Also, should I go to the party? I'm underage to drink, and it's a BYOB party, so I don't know if I should attend or not. Advice please! Thanks! Also, if I decide not to attend, what could I say to him so that it doesn't sound like I don't want to go at all, but more that I don't think it's the right situation for me to be in?

You should definitely go for a variety of reasons.

First, part of the fun of college is to go out and have a good time. All that studying and hard work, you deserve some time to go have fun and meet new people. If you don't you'll just end up regretting it and feeling burnt out because your life became too one sided. Unless you have some sort of social phobia, why wouldn't you go to a party you've been invited to?

Second, while officially we should all condemn breaking the law and discourage underage drinking, in reality it was always the most fun haha. As long as you're not going to be driving and have somebody you know with you, I wouldn't make too big a deal out of it (unless your area has a habit of making examples out of underage drinking, then you might want to exercise some caution and abstain from drinking if you aren't staying the night). But even then that shouldn't exclude you from going, alcohol or not. You should bring a friend with you either way. It will make you a little less nervous, it's safer, and the guys at the party will appreciate you bringing a friend along.

Third, college is about networking and socializing. The contacts and relationships you form in college can be just as valuable if not more valuable than the degree you get. They are the ones who often times can hook you up with a job or know somebody who can get you in the door over somebody more qualified. They might have the skills you need to partner up and start a business together. The list is endless. It never hurts to know more people and broaden your horizons. You might just meet somebody that will help change you life for the best.

Fourth, even if you go, and realize this guy that invited you might not be everything you hoped, or he's not that interested in you after all- you still get to meet a ton of new people through this party. The fact you know so few people is a good thing (though still, bring a friend). Maybe he isn't mr. right, but maybe one of his friends could be. Why miss out on that opportunity for what? I can't come up with a single GOOD reason why you SHOULDN'T go.

Fifth, if things aren't going well, you feel to uncomfortable, or something of that nature, just leave. You can just politely say, "Hey, I've got a lot going on tomorrow so I have to head out but thanks for inviting me, I'm glad I got to swing by for a bit." and head out. You made an appearance which is positive, and you made a quick exit because you weren't feeling the vibe. You realized this group isn't for you, yet didn't have to burn any bridges in the process.

I can't see a reason not to go. So don't make excuses. Find a friend, make an appearance, be sociable, and see what happens. If things aren't going well, head out. Simple.

It's best not to over think things when you get invited to a party. I used to do this to my own detriment. Just go and let loose and whatever happens happens. He may like or, or he may just be inviting every cute girl on his FB, as guys are won't to do. And as for the age difference, 2 and half years or so is not that significant generally speaking but ultimately it's about what you are comfortable with. You're both at similar stages of your lives and go to school together so I wouldn't consider it a big deal.

I would think there is potential interest. He could like you! Regarding the party, I would go if I am interested in him also. But for the underage drinking part, if you do not feel safe then I would think you should not go. But other than that Go for it girl! Good Luck!

19-22 is not a huge gap at all.  He may, or may not have an interest in you.  Their isn't enough info to tell.  Either way, I'd go.  If it makes you feel uncomfortable, then don't go.  If I was you, I wouldn't drink.  Just my $0.02 especially if you aren't comfortable drinking.

Hes not inviting you to have sex with him :/, maybe he doesn't even like you and was just inviting people for the sake of his special day. But if he doesn't like you, who cares? Just go anyway, maybe you will find your prince charming waiting for you in the party.

If your'e comfortable with that sort of party, go, and have fun (though not too much fun, ahem). Maybe he'll express interest, maybe you'll meet someone else.

go if you want to don't if you dont. there will be plenty to drink at a college birthday party...drink if you want to.

if you don't want to go then just say something else is going on. if you are interested in him but don't want to go to the party then see if he would like to do something another time together.

Sounds like he's interested in you.  I say go, have a great time, and if he's not interested, you might meat cool people there anyway.   Just don't do the "typical" drunken freshman chick thing.   ;-)

Go have fun, but I'd say go with a friend and make sure people know where you are. Being in groups is safer.
