How to deal with shallow family members?

I really am sick of going to family gatherings as I end up being excluded to some degree. I am not as academic as what my sister is but for her success she gets treated better. It's funny how different people act towards you once they learn you are less successful than the other. I definitely don't want them part of my life once I do succeed later in life. They have never been there for me and I haven't done anything to deserve how I have been treated.

I don't know if I should talk to them about how I feel. I have done so before and they just used it to their advantage - excluding me even more.

I really do hate some of my family members, but don't know what to do?

Well talk to them one more time, and if they exclude you, and you're able to not allow them to be included in anything else from here, you can try that. Sometimes with age comes wisdom. My brother and I didn't get along much when we were younger, but as we both got older, we both became closer.

Are you sure that they exclude you? Maybe you only feel that way because you're insecure/jealous of your sister. You're not even 18 yet/your career hasn't even started yet... how are they supposed to judge you? Give examples of how they treat you.

Ok, I exaggerated on the excluding part. And, I guess I am somewhat jealous because of how much attention she receives due to her successes. But it's like she is more accepted or I feel they favour her more... I realize now that is probs due to insecurity and I am just being silly. You're right it's all just insecurity to which I need to get over.
