Why am I not interested in social media, at all?

first I don't really have any friends, but even if I do I wouldn't care for social media. I prefer face to face or phone interactions, even though ironically I don't get many of those either. It's not that I am not likeable, Because people that I come across socially usually like me quite a bit.

it's just that I have no desire in taking photos of anything I do or posting my thoughts online and craving for someone to "like" me.

I don't need you to like me and I don't want you to peek into my life.

I have no interest in "sharing" my life with you.

And if you are a non-famous person, who cares about your boring routine life?

If you were a Navy SEAL on the Osama bin Laden killing mission then yes, I would like to see you post Instagram photos while you are on the mission.

I mean, when I think about it, I think Instagram and Facebook has turned people into zoo animals, it doesn't make you a mini celebrity, it makes you a zoo animal, and why would these millions of people so willing become a zoo animal?

It's a way of connecting people man, not of maintaining friendships. I think you don't like it because you haven't taken the time to appreciate what it offers, like a lot of the people you are talking about who use it as their personal paparazzi.

Facebook and other like media sites have actually allowed me to expand my networking abilities. The way the site was intended to be used. Which is to connect with other businesses / opportunities / even people in surrounding areas to get a globalization of socializing. I don't feel that these sites are even close to effective for maintaining a friendship, though lots of people want that appreciation and are entitled to use it however they please. For example, OCT Buy sell and trade on Facebook has millions of people in my surrounding area that buy, sell, and trade cars (or parts) so if I ever needed anything, all I have to do is go and make a small post leaving a way to contact me. Then I check it on some downtime and I find the part for half the price elsewhere.

Another example is finding work - why make a craigslist ad to do some sidejobs/handy man income when you can go to Facebook and join a group that allows you to freely post your services. Then other people tour the website and see who you are and what you're about, in one click they can contact you and be on their way to purchasing services/goods from you or your company.

I agree, there's lot of drama and personal issues on Facebook that really can be quite annoying - but if you find your own purpose for using a specific service, it will make your experience much better and cleaner.

Hopefgully you hae all the social network you need in real-time friends and family, and I agree that it's weird to advertise your personal life to all and sundry.

It's more being an all-American groupie, I'd say, pretending to be a celebrity. it's not being a zoo animal, since those at least get some respect.

It's clearly not for you, but I guess some people enjoy it. I think people who have pretty outgoing, open personalities get more out of it. I feel kind of the same way you do, though not as strongly. It's a little much when they take it to extremes and post about everything they do, all the time, but if you use it moderately as one of the tools you use to connect and interact with people, I don't really see a problem with it. Personally I don't like sharing much about myself online, so I mainly use Facebook to coordinate or help plan events, accept invites to stuff going on, and keep in contact with cousins and friends out of the country. But yeah, my preference for talking to people is through the phone, Skype, or better yet in person.

I also prefer face to face but it seems people are more comfortable or find it more convenient to communicate with each other through social network or whatever but I personally only instagram to kill time when I'm in a van on the way to work and check fb every once a week.

i have friends at your age who refused to start a FB account and we are fine with it. they don't feel the need to have a FB account

You have quite the idea about it. I agree with you. It kills people interaction and it's making lives miserable since they can't enjoy something outside of their houses now.

For me, I just use them to connect with people like if there's an online assignment and such. Otherwise, I don't use them. I prefer going out and meeting people.

Social media is a complete and total waste of time. I've never used it and never will.
