R. I. P. Christina Grimmie: Another Beautiful Soul Gone Too Soon

Well-known singer Christina Grimmie, whom of which competed on NBC's The Voice, and garnished lots of fame from it, was shot Friday night after a concert in Orlando while signing autographs.

With deep regret, we have confirmed Christina Grimmie, @TheRealGrimmie has died from her injuries.

After preforming with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live, Christina had stayed to sign autographs and to meet her fans, but she had no idea what would come next. Around 10:45 p.m. Eastern Time, a gunman had walked towards her and shot her. Her brother, livid, had tackled the gunman, who in response had shot and killed himself.

The suspects name will not be released yet, according to an official statement.

“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”

said Heather Weiss, her spokeswoman.

Christina Grimmie, 22, rose to fame with the help of her strong YouTube following. She has garnished over 3 million subscribers over years of hard work and building her fanbase. Her YouTube channel was zeldaxlove64 Christina Grimmie.

Just earlier that day, Christina was all smiles as she told her fans to come and see her in Orlando.

When news hit that Grimmie was shot, The Voice had took to twitter to share their condolences. She has finished in third place in 2014, Season 6 of the show.

Adam Levine, judge and Grimmie's coach on the show, said she he was "sad, shocked, and confused" by the tragedy, along with a picture of him and her.

My thoughts...

It was so sad that she had to go like this. Why couldn't it be a peaceful, quiet death? Why did her life have to fall at the hands of a bullet? It just goes to show how many awful people exist in this sad, corrupted world. People gain pleasure by seeing others suffer, and people gain envy by watching others climb the ladder to success. How sick and sadistic do you have to be to shoot an innocent person who was only minding her own business?

I remember being 12 years old and watching her covers of Adele, Selena Gomez, and more famous singers on her YouTube channel. Her voice was powerful and quite frankly amazing. She deserved all of the success she was getting, and much, much more. Not to mention, she seemed like a sweet person when she was just sitting there, looking at the camera and talking to us. I was subscribed to her for a long, long time.

I hope after this tragedy that America sees this as another unnecessary life lost to the bullet of a gun and hopefully employs stronger gun control laws so that something as tragic as this does not happen again.

So far, initial reports from both the police and her brother have stated that they have found no connection between the shooter and this girl.

If that's true, then you know there is something seriously, deeply, truly wrong with the world when a person can just walk up to someone, SHOOT someone, and then stare blankly at you and say, "Meh, I just felt like it."

You also know there's something deeply fucked up when people look around afterwards and say, "It's just a dead person, who cares."

Seems to me someone just needed courage to commit suicide by killing another and just targeted someone who had talent and presence while they were a loser. I think in their twisted mind they wanted to give themselves a reason to kill themselves. The same thing happened at a non alcoholic club where a group of exchange students were waiting to get inside. Some suicidal person started shooting them and then then committed suicide.

I had never heard of her until today but I looked at her Facebook and Youtube and it still saddened me to know that such a happy young woman, who had finally gotten somewhere in the career she wanted, was finally getting more recognition, had her life stolen so early.

It is evident that her killer had serious mental health issues - they become so obsessed or jealous that they just turn and feel the necessity to kill the person and/or themselves.

My heart goes out to her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her. It's horrible thinking that only yesterday, she was alive, well and happy, excited to see her fans but it was all taken away from her. It's such a shock.

Gun control is bullshit. By putting restrictive laws in place, and having "Gun free zones", the only people who will have guns are going to be criminals who don't care about the laws to begin with.
Fortunately this guy didn't have a chance to do more damage than he did, but he had "two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife" on him at the time. Just imagine what could have happened had this chicks brother not tackled him quickly.

Yes, people die because of bullets that come from guns. But the bullet doesn't leave the gun until the person holding the gun squeezes the trigger.
If nobody had guns, these nutjobs would simply find other ways to accomplish their goals... knives, blunt objects, improvised explosives, chemicals, etc.

Getting rid of guns would be impossible. Putting stricter laws on guns or outlawing guns will mean that the only people WITH guns will be the ones who shouldn't have them.

If he hadn't been taken down, he would have had at least a dozen other bullets he could have put into other innocent people, plus a knife.
Wouldn't it be better to have several other people in the room who are good, law-abiding citizens, trained and licensed to carry, with their own legal firearms ready to stop someone like this from taking out several other bystanders?

I understand where you are coming from, nobody likes to see people killed unnecessarily, and when it happens to be that a gun was involved, I understand the feeling like "guns are a problem".

The thing is, that the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens are already restricted quite a bit. I used to live in a state where it's possible to get a concealed carry permit, providing you take the required training classes, pass a background check, pay the application fee, etc., but the police chief in the town in which you reside can deny your application for whatever reason they want. Many towns/cities would turn everyone down, just because.

One little bite at a time, peoples rights are taken away. They're small bites, so it's not so easy to spot. But we don't need any more bites taken out of our 2nd amendment.

I'd like to hear your suggestion though...

I'm still in disbelief that this happened. I'm not like a major fan or anything but I did essentially watch through all her videos when I was around 16. I wasn't even aware of the fact that she was doing so well and was even on The Voice. So when I heard the news, so many mixed feelings washed over me. I was happy that she had made it, but also extremely sad over the fact that it had to end like this before even truly starting.
I'm so fucking pissed off that the guy killed himself. I wish that he would have faced the consequences and gotten thrown in jail, where he could rot for the rest of his life. But most of all I just wish this had never happened and that she was still alive.
Life is just so fucking unfair sometimes.

Anyway, i think the reason this hits harder than the tragedies happening around the world (although they are still appalling and by no means okay), is because as @RainbowFanGirl has said, we grew up watching her. She was just herself in front of a camera, pouring her heart out through music. It was relatable and growing up and tuning in every week, you grow to feel like you know them in a way. That is why some people feel more than just sad and angry, they feel grief over this senseless death. I cried twice, beautiful soul, may she rest in peace.

i cannot tell you how PISSED OFF i was when i found out. she was amazing, in every way possible. she did everything right. she was grounded, kind, and just started taking off as a musician.

This really hit me like a train... I have been in the Team Grimmie for a loooooong time. During the Voice audition, we were probably not surprised but more like "Go get 'em girl", and so it was. She managed to get all four coaches, and I cried out of joy.. seeing how far she's become... Her talent, her personality... I'm feeling a bit heartbroken atm.. She's my age too :/ this is sad

I love guns and have many. If I thought gun control would do anything but make things worse, I probably would support some. It's terrible things like this happen but gun laws will do nothing but punish law abiding people at best and make things worse in the worse case scenario. Gun laws may work in other countries but there's many reasons why they can't work in the U. S. I want to save lives too but wasting our time and probably making things worse is not the answer. I deal with gun laws on a daily basis, I understand them intimately and I understand why they will not work. I was so upset about this. I started watching her YouTube videos 6 years ago in high school, and always loved her covers. She's one of those singers who worked hard to create a strong presence for herself online, and gained recognition on there through sheer talent and dedication. She amassed a huge following, and I was happy to hear she released successful albums, did well on The Voice, and went on to do big shows.
