What is your opinion on this video? "Hugh Mungus" -- Sexual harassment or not?

So I'm going to *try* and remain as unbiased as I can in this as I describe it for those who don't want the full video. (Keyword for those looking for ways to criticize my post: "try")

The setting: This was at a protest (possibly with BLM? --unconfirmed) regarding a new Seattle police station named "The Bunker."

What started it: After an interview of a person who was Pro-Bunker, the man in question talks to the person behind the camera (aka Zarna Joshi). The guy gives his name to Zarna as "Hugh Mungus."

Aftermath: She believes this was sexual harassment. The man believes he was making a joke. After he starts to walk away, she raises her voice. This draws attention of the nearby security guards who then confront her as he walks away. The fighting continues. As the original guy leaves, these security guards ask her to lower her voice and stop disrupting the peace. She becomes then upset at the guards for letting the guy walk away. After more fighting happens, the security guards call the Seattle police and they show up.

That's the gist of it.

Was this sexual harassment? Who was in the right here?

Yes. This was sexual harassment. She was in the right.

No. This was not sexual harassment. She overreacted.

No, this isn't sexual harassment. The definition of sexual harassment is purposely vague and incredibly indescriptive so it can be applied to almost anything unfortunately. "harassment in a workplace, or other professional or social situation, involving the making of unwanted sexual advances or obscene remarks." The word humongous is not obscene. The name Hugh Mungus is not obscene. Obscene words are described as being X rated or socially unacceptable. The word humongous is not socially unacceptable. Therefore, even if we use the incredibly vague oversimplistic definition what he did was not sexual harassment.

But ignoring that definition for a second, how did his actions in any way harm this woman. She goes around berating people who are pro bunker. I wouldn't have given her my name either tbh. I would have probably just said "none of your business" but then she would have claimed I said that because I'm a man. Or, knowing her, even THAT would have been considered sexual harassment.

Even if he had said his name was Mike Hunt (which, according to that definition could be sexual harassment) that still wouldn't have harmed her in any way shape or form. She would have felt harmed, but there wouldn't have been any permanent effect (on the average person- on her, who knows).

I think the definition should be changed personally. However, even as it stands now what he did was objectively not sexual harassment. The shrieking harpy in the video was too thick to understand that he did not want to give her his name. He didn't have to.

And, that's not even bringing up the fact that his name COULD have been Hugh Mungus (it wasn't in this case.) In that case, she would have been giving him a hard time for answering her question.

If somebody named Mike Hunt ever answers that question- hoo boy.

Wow. She's crazy! If anything, SHE was harassing HIM... and everyone else in the video with all her drama and provocation. :)) But what really surprised me were the girls who sounded shocked and offended in the background and sided with her in an instant when she told them what he said to her, as if it was truly sexually offensive 😱. Anyway, I didn't just say she was crazy because of her overreaction. I think there must really be something wrong with her if she used this very footage to prove to people that he sexually harassed her, when the footage itself shows very very clearly that he did not. Did she really think anyone would believe her story having seen what happened with their own eyes? Heck no! ... But apparently her Facebook friends did.

They're all crazy. :)) Though I think what she was really mad about was the interview thing for some reason. :? Maybe she simply thought him unfit to be interviewed or maybe she wanted to be interviewed herself instead of him, considering how passionate she is about it and her profile picture on Facebook where it looks like she's being videoed probably for a similar thing and also her cover photo which it looks... I don't know what to say. :/

@ TheINTJ Yeah, I think she was already upset considering she was at a protest and the beginning dialogue of the video, and the 'Dad-Joke' put her over the edge. It was perhaps an accumulation of things. I think that the other people in the crowd were perhaps more upset at him being the opposition (aka Pro-Bunker) rather than the "sexual harassment," although that's just a guess.

@Bandit74 In their defense though (after re-reading the post), Zarna didn't quite explain what she was considering sexual harassment. If someone didn't watch the video and only read her post, they'd probably assume that the guy was a sexual harassing creep. She framed it very towards her side-- much heavy bias. (Granted, most of her facebook friends were probably like minded on the matter regardless)

Fair enough. In hindsight, he probably should have just walked on by and not have said anything to her in the first place. Telling her his name (at least last name) may not have been a good idea, but the dad joke timing/location wasn't exactly prime.
