To all men and women, LEARN TO COMMUNICATE

This is ridiculous. How can so many people assume a complicated response deserves a complicated answer? If your average guy asked a girl what she wants to eat, she doesn't need to lie, invite him to a restaurant she hates, and have a miserable time all because she thinks he'll be happy. The guy doesn't want that! HE DOES NOT WANT THAT!

The average guy would then be in complete confusion if he later surprises her with that exact food and she becomes upset. Now the guy's completely confused because he thought she loved the food, and wild fantasies start emerging. Maybe she hates me, maybe she's cheating, maybe she's not my type, maybe it's her period, and so on and so forth. Now the guy almost always chooses the most complicated reason for her behavior, and by acting on that he inevitably causes the relationship to fall into even MORE turmoil.

This happens far too often, and I see it often on this site. Maybe not the exact situation, but a lack of true honest communication seems the problem with almost all of the relationships people have come here seeking advice for.

All it takes is one small misunderstanding because someone thought it would be better to lie or hide a truth, and in days the problem erupts into an unprecedented convoluted disaster. I don't care if it's a choice of restaurant, how soon you want to lose your virginity, when you want to become married, or if you like the name your boyfriend gave your pet, JUST TELL THE TRUTH.

Even if it hurts then to tell the truth, know that if you don't you're risking not only the entire relationship, but you're reinforcing a behavior that favors secrecy rather than open, honest, loving communication.

melsmala Well said...You should start an advice column and you should call it No Remorse. Tell it like it is and you don't have to worry about anything coming back to bite you. That's how I look at things don't say what you don't mean and don't do what you don't want to do. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to achieve a goal. And everyone should always take to heart that the truth will indeed set you free. - More than a year ago
