My ex and I were doing well, he was making a real effort to do things to make me happy. Then, he had some financial problems. I offered to help him, he refused. He mentioned his money problems a few more times, and I kept offering to help him. He adamantly refused. I pointed out that he'd helped me, and I didn't mind. He said that wasn't helping me, it was doing what he was supposed to do. Then, he started picking fights over little things, anything and everything, until he finally broke up with me. A friend said I emasculated him by offering to help him. Is that really such a bad thing, to want to help someone you love? If that's the case, is there anything I can do?
Would this cause a breakup?
