Do people with borderline personality disorder often isolate themselves? Especially if they're starting to devalue someone?

  • Yes. They isolate themselves a lot and do things that hurt themselves emotionally. They're extremely afraid of being abandoned from people they consider close. They have phases were their value on a person goes up or down. I suspect you mean the phase were they're value goes down. Seems like plausible behavior for a person with BPD.

    • More details please?

    • If you're devalued for whatever reason, you'll be kept at a distance while things get figured out. People don't leave you alone if you ask them to, they just come after you more or get all scornful, so the easiest way to keep people away is to retreat into your shell and sever ties with some of the people around you.
