Is breaking up through text THAT bad?

There's instances where you need to break up through text. Here are some VALID examples:
1. The person is abusive
2. It's a long distance relationship
3. The person continues to ignore you and you can't get in touch with them.
4. The person refuses to accept the break up.

Why do people feel like breaking up through a text is so bad when they will say things like "I love you" through text? Or they'll say someone died through a text. Aren't those all things that are better to say in person? So why is it not excepted to break up with a person via text? I don't get it. We live in a digital society.
