Next time tell us where you live, because the law differs hugely between countries and provinces/states.Now, your profile says you live in Australia. Australia does not have so-called "common law marriage", so if you never made your marriage official with the state then the state or a court will always view it as a boyfriend and girlfriend situation, so there is no such thing as a divorce.
Same as in Australia, so legally it's not a divorce, just a boyfriend and a girlfriend breaking up. Of course if there are children involved there will be legal proceedings to establish (joint) custody.
thanks.. i wouldn't have to pay alimony right
No, but you might have to pay child support. If you find yourself in this situation offer to strike a deal where you don't pay a lot of child support but you do pay for things like school fees, buy the kid clothes, etc... That way you're sure the money goes to the kid and not the mother's nail salon.
thanks dude you've really been a good help.
what if ur both millionaires would u still need to pay child support or nah
I don't know what California law says about that. Maybe they have an income/wealth cap for child support, maybe they don't.
If the marriage is never made official, the only thing you'll have to pay for is child support.
